Q&A with Steve Babcock
I’ve freelanced at the usual suspects from BBDO to McCann. For some reason Vayner is like LService - an enigma wrapped in puzzle... Is it because you guys only hire non-traditionals or only juniors?
Thoughts on: Small shops vs Large Holding company vs privately owned Each must have strengths and weaknesses, what's your take on those differences? Which ones do you think will take the lead?
Vayner was built on churning out copious low-craft content at high-speed. Now that every teen and micro-influencer can do that for brands, how will the business model and client offering be changing?
What do you believe is the main purpose of Account? What skills make a great Account Person for not only the agency or client but also for their Co workers?
Hi Steve, Why does VM claim to be disruptive & different? When I worked there, me & everyone in the LA office pretty much worked on static social posts & not much more. Has this changed?
Did you have a plan for where you wanted your career to go when you were in your mid-20s? How did you carve out your journey?
How does one stand out from a pool of prospective new hires in this industry? At the end of the day, a lot of us have the same or similar experience. Is it just about being relatable and personable?
A favorite question I like to ask industry leaders is how they see consultancies competing with traditional creative industries in the next 5-10 years? How do you see Vayner positioned in this regard?
lI’m interested in how you’ve seen the industry change since you got started. What’s been the biggest shift, and has anything caught you buy surprise?
What's some practical advice you gained that's stuck with you? Maybe something you learned along the way that you'd have loved to have passed on to your younger self earlier?
Should I quit a ten year stint to double my salary? Even though the 5, 10, 15 year plan doesn’t exist.
Hi Steve, the email said you started in the mail room. Could you tell us a little about your journey and how you got started in advertising?
Hi Steve, really appreciate your inisghts. My questions is what were the most common traits in the people you worked with that made them memorable, good or bad?
