New joiner here, what’s the problem with flying American?

I love American Airlines hot nuts

No United status since I haven’t traveled in ages but I have 84k miles racked up there. Only 14k miles with American but new company is offering AAdvantage Gold. Should I keep building miles with United or switch to an AA loyalist? Based in Chicago. Thanks in advance!

I have 97k miles from AA, 75k of which came from Signing up for the Citi Card. I’m thinking of switching to United because - Recently it seems like American airlines has been messing up a lot in terms of flying on time and “mechanical issues” with their planes. Is anyone else seeing this?

Traveling to NYC with my 18 yo daughter this weekend. Returning Monday on a 9:00 pm flight out of LaGuardia. Just found out LaGuardia is under construction. We are staying in Chelsea and flying American, I think concourse B. Advice on what time should I plan to leave Chelsea for the airport? Also, is using Lyft a reasonable option to/from LaGuardia? OneWorld Ruby without any American or Alaska status?? I have Platinum on United, Gold on Delta, just a member on American, and joined Alaska’s today for a flight on Alaska this afternoon. When I went to check in I noticed I have OneWorld Ruby which is allowing me 2 free checked bags which I was not expecting. Any idea how I could have gotten OneWorld Ruby without American status? It’s dumbfounding me. My daughter on my reservation doesn’t have free checked bags, just myself.

Is flying standby just as simple as “if there’s a seat open on an earlier flight, it’s yours for free”? I have a flight coming up and I just looked at earlier flights that day and they are a lot of seats available. If I go to the counter of one of those flights before mine will I get on? My flight is about 2 hours later but was much cheaper, which is why I booked it. But if I could fly standby and get on earlier flight for free, that would be awesome. American Airlines flight for reference.
