How do I land my first job in product management? I am currently a consultant for a healthcare firm. I went back to school and I finish my Masters in IT from Virginia Tech this semester. I took some classes related to Product Management and understanding agile methodology. I think this would be a great career path for me but I am having a hard time getting interviews.

Current TC: 88k (83k base, 5k performance bonus), 3 YoE. Healthcare specific domain consultant. Looking to get into strategy work. Offer at strategy firm is 95k base pre-negotiation . Is this worth jumping over for? Tips on negotiating higher? For reference, manager level at my firm pays 95k base and if I stay, that would take 3-4 years for promo. Thanks for any advice!

Does anyone have a name for what I'm looking for? Essentially, I'm looking for a resource to give to clients that really need to assess their current benefits and pay structure (and pay equity) in comparison to other organizations in the market and to provide the results and a roadmap of how to get where they need to be in order to retain and attract talent. Something like an HR Turnaround Consultant but I'm sure there is a better name?

Need some advice!

I'm a recent PhD grad (30 yo) in STEM, and just got some offers from different companies. Particularly, two of them are interesting to me.

1) from a Energy Market Company in Pennsylvania as an Operations Research Scientist, 95k + 15% bonus + very good benefits and generous PTO. It's a very chill job (9-5) with good people but limited opportunity to growth.
2) from a consulting company in NYC as a data science consultant, 130k + 10k signing bonus.

Which one you choose? why?

My friend said he wished he would’ve pursued SWE. He’s a consultant at Big 4, 3YOE, and has a MPH in Healthcare Mgmt.. What kind of roles/work can he get if he decides to do a swe bootcamp but stay in healthcare? Would his salary increase significantly if he does that?

Consultant vs specialist track - I’m considering jumping to the specialist track since I enjoy the technical work much more. However, it seems like it’s perceived as a step back. But what are the tangible differences? Lower pay and benefits? I’ve asked my cc but she doesn’t seem to have much to offer. Also, is the culture different? ….I really dislike working with hyper competitive people, most in consulting are great to work with, but there seems to be a solid 30% that are bad humans

Interested in getting others perspective here. Senior consultant but received an offer in healthcare industry for more money and an upgraded title. TC for the offer is about a 25% increase, with the base being higher than my current TC. Currently working on a high profile client and have a decent chance of being promoted to manager next year but will probably go through hell this year to get it and it’s not a sure thing. Should I take the money and run?

PE is notorious for being difficult to get into unless you’re coming from IB. However, there are success stories for consultants breaking into PE even without an MBA.

Which got me thinking, how difficult would it be for a healthcare management consultant to land a spot at a healthcare-focused PE firm?
