What are the benefits of helping a Partner with BD a lot? Working on proposals and getting on BD calls every day for this new partner while fully staffed ... is this how you progress? Not sure how I should view this.

I finally received a home care license (took 5 years to get) and have a well thought out business plan that’s focused on healthcare trends but need my full time job to pay the bills. I am looking for a partner with an RN degree for my business but can’t find anyone interested in taking the entrepreneurial leap. Any suggestions on how to find someone interested in taking this leap?

Tell me if I’m missing something here. In consulting, you sign up to work yourself to the bone for 15ish years at well below market pay for the chance of making partner where you will still be somewhat below market for another 10 years working yourself to the bone for the chance at maybe being a senior partner for 10 years making decent money while still working insane hours all while paying for your boss’s salary and pension and their retired boss’s pension. What about this is appealing again?

On a call with a partner helping a F500 and he’s talking about ways to chop benefits costs and shift employees to cheaper healthcare plans that cover less and how to spin it as a good thing.

Considering buying a used car ($7 - 12k). Two questions: 1. Is this a reasonable price range given my financial situation? 2. Would it be better to pay in full or put down a large down payment and then do low interest monthly payments? Context: 23 yo, 82k salary, 28k in checking/saving, 15k in 401k/stocks, no debt. Monthly spending is as follows (1400 for rent + all bills, 300 for food, ~150 in Misc spending). My partner will be moving in with me next month so around $500+ in savings per month

Partner just graduated college and is insisting on saving her income instead of contributing it to 401k as stocks are too “risky”. I know it’s not my money but this sounds like a recipe for deep regret in the future. Thoughts?

Would you take high risk / high reward consulting gig at a small firm? Comp is hourly and project based. Firm has a good foothold in the niche market. Offers lots of flexibility. But no benefits and since it’s project and hourly based it’s feast or famine. If you have a partner (spouse, domestic partner, etc.) and they had a stable job, would it change your perspective of taking the high risk/high reward role?

Received a job offer for an industry senior job that would be a $20K pay bump plus nice bonus and really good benefits (a lot better then my current benefits) and much better work/life balance. However, I was pretty much guaranteed to be early promoted to manager this year (in August). I don’t really see myself staying until partner so I’m trying to weigh out the pros and cons to help me make a decision.

I’m a solo practitioner with a focus on bankruptcy/restructuring. I’m in discussions with a former law partner (finance) about forming a partnership. We want to learn the best way to locate independent contractor/per diem associates with finance and/or bankruptcy backgrounds. Any suggestions? NY admissions preferred. Thank you in advance.

Anyone start a consultancy on their own? How was it? Looking at my rate, partner pension definitely soaks up all the winnings (not complaining, we are paid well), but I’d like to be the captain of my own ship and take more of the earnings.

My partner hasn’t been feeling well over the last couple days. Nothing severe, just slight malaise and fatigue. She told me she had contact with someone who was Covid positive but she’s in healthcare so that isn’t anything new. She was prepared. Today she was sent home from work and told to quarantine but has insisted on getting hugs and even coughed on me during one. We’ve been together for a LONG time. This is a pattern for when she gets sick but with possible Covid I expected more precaution

I’m a 5th year associate at an AM200 firm where typical partner track is 7-8 years. The firm is pretty hush re partnership likelihood, but I’ve always gotten good reviews, met hours, and even generated a little business.

That said, I honesty have no idea if I want to be partner. I don’t know what comp looks like, collection expectations, equity buy-in, or benefits looks like.... when is the appropriate time to ask these questions? I’d hate working another 3+ years for something I don’t want.

Thoughts on technology consulting SM who doesn't see partner track playing out going to a $1.5B PE firm to do tech strategy work as VP for both the PE internally and also for select companies under management.

Not much increase in base pay but 10-20% better bonus and similar benefits. Also an opportunity for carry but not sure how much.

Anyone have experience with exits for technology strategy folks to PE firms?

First time home-buyer questions re: tax (or other) benefits.

I am looking to buy a house with my partner (not married). She already owns a home, this would be my first home (and it would become our primary residence).

Our combined income is $325k/yr (120k/205k for her and I, respectively) and we both have good credit scores such that either one of us could get a mortgage for enough to buy what we want.

What are the benefits of the mortgage being in one vs. both of our names? (CONTINUED)

Ok rich or going to be rich fishes. I need advice on a 9-5 job vs freelance. My partner is the primary earner makes 400k all in including bonuses. Has a pretty steady job. Puts in 50-60 hrs a week. I earn 145k all in at steady 9-5 job. My job is less demanding. Probably 20/30 hrs a week. My question is if I should go freelance and using his benefits open an LLC. I might earn half the ant but can write off some tax stuff and free up time to put my hands on other things like real estate etc. cont

Anyone in the UK here?

Looking for some FIRE tips. Current ‘waterfall’ is:

1/ Max out pension contributions (just under the new taper threshold so £40k/year) - mix of tracker and active

2/ Max our 3 year carry forward allowance on pensions,

3/ 20k/year in ISA (had paid into a LISA for one year but live with my partner who owns, so unlikely to use this for first home purchase; will wait until 60),

4/ Paying down mortgage before end of 5 yr fix, so we’ll be at 60% LTV.

Any tips beyond this?
