To con't the conversation on engagement rings💍 - what do they symbolize to you? My BF and I got into a discussion about this last night. He views them as an investment and an "asset" on the books for his future family. He also has grandparents who had to finance their trip to America by selling their jewels. I see the ring as more of a gift to the future bride that is an expense that can be sold for money if needed, but isn't an investment. I'm fine w/ lab grown, he is not. Thoughts?

Best books to start brushing up on finance skills relevant to PE/DD work? Might be looking to lateral somewhere that focuses on it and would like to have a bit of a foundational knowledge so I don't sound like an idiot while networking with people.

My accounting edge finance is not compatible with the new Mac OS. I do not need the $15/month subscription they offering as an upgrade since I’m a lone freelancer. I’ve always kept my own books and did my own taxes. Anyone else out there with a basic bookkeeping program recommendation for Mac would be appreciated.

I’m sure there’s tons of threads out there. But does anyone have any luck day trading with all the restrictions we have at the Big 4 firms? I’ve done okay but it’s a pain in with the restrictions. Seeking recommendations for good materials (books/ courses etc.) on finance transformation?

Suggestions for Personal Finance books? I'm somewhere in the middle of the road - don't need the basics like the need to save a rainy day fund, pay off student loans (I already have that covered plus have hit a number of milestones including putting the down payment our first home), but I'm also not really interested in super aggressive investing like day trading or watching individual stocks very closely.

Okay finance lawyers. I don't understand this issue. Client says books show we're highly profitable but we have no way to pay our tax liability.... Well where the hell did tbe money go ? Client also claims that they are only taking a small portion of the revenue as profit. I don't understand how your books can be different than reality.

I’m 21 about to graduate from a top 40 school (BU, BC, NEU). I’m going into restructuring at an (FTI, Alvarez,Alix). I’d really like to get into HBS or GSB in about 5 years. On the side, I run a educationalYouTube channel with 1m subscribers also trying to leverage it into a podcast. I am also a artist (colorizing) and working towards publishing a coffee table type book with a historian. I have a 3.5 in Finance and Accounting. Do I have a chance assuming high GMAT? In my second busy season of PA (2 years ago), auditing a specialty finance company that we all quickly came to realize stunk to high hell. We ended up issuing an adverse opinion over a disagreement with the client to book an approx. 100MM write down adjustment to deferred revenue. We walked away with the thought that we had just scratched the surface of their corruption. Fast forward 2 years and low and behold they’re under a 1.2B dollar investigation by the SEC and their CEO is in prison.

What’s a good, practical tax book to read for someone who knows nothing about taxes? I feel like I should familiarize myself with them but don’t know where to start/find the topic very overwhelming and dense even as a finance attorney. Advice to young lawyers. Read a book.

I saw the thread about savings and many young lawyers (20s and 30s) don’t know how to open up a brokerage account or invest in their 401k. I know they don’t teach personal finance in school (though they should!), but my advice is that you should go to your local library and read a book about the subject. You have the skills necessary but you must invest in yourself. No one will look out for you.

Could someone explain what finance closing process is? I passed CPA and have audit experience but I don’t really understand how industry accounting cycle works :( What does it mean to close the books? Are they referring to 12/31 deadline? Do all JE have to be recorded within this date? How does one close it?
