Can you become a good leader or do you have to “be born with it”? I’m smart and really good at accounting but I don’t feel like I lead my team of 9 well (I’m in industry now). Wondering if there are books or podcasts I can read/listen to in order to upskill my leadership skills?

I'm starting a new job in a few weeks and I haven't jumped ship in about a decade. I'm looking for recommendations of books, articles, and frameworks that can help me prepare. I'm in a leadership position and will need to develop a plan and strategy. Looking for general resources or they could be specific to tech product management. Thanks for any suggestions!

How many times has an interviewer no-showed and the recruiter profusely apologizing on their behalf?
Happened to me with Mindtree recruiter, for an IoT leadership position where the interviewing VP chose to no show twice… after which I thanked the recruiter that I was impressed by their book of busi-ness and that it was intimidating to be thinking about the prospect of working for Mindtree… as I’m too incapable for those performance standards… 😂😂

- fairly decent place to work (from someone who worked with the Vancouver and San Jose offices). never met a blue badger (permanent employee) who had awful things to say.

- Ashley Goodall (their SVP, Methods & Intelligence) co-authored a brilliant book on leadership and people management called “Nine Lies About Work” that makes me believe they can be an awesome place to work

- red badgers had low morale since they’re contract workers and can be terminated at any time

Are there any helpful books/resources/podcast episodes about leadership you guys would recommend?

I work in the timeshare industry for the last 10 years, but dying to get out. We book sales meetings with travelers and basically speak to every Type of person. I was always a top performer and now lead a top team. Its not easy and most fail. I made lots of money. I want to change careers and move to tech sales as a SDR or CSM but all my exp is in B2C instead of B2B. Can you guys give me any advice on how to break through?

Just got promoted to ACD. Will be taking on more leadership roles. Any books, workshops, resources that helped you learn leadership skills?

We’re starting to interview for my copywriter partner this week, but I don’t have any creative leadership above me (I’m also the only creative with agency experience at the company) so I’m nervous about being the only one looking at prospective partners.

Any tips for good questions to ask to feel out who is the best fit? I’ve worked with great and not so great writers in the past and it wasn’t always clear which would end up being the not so great based on their books.

Looking forward in my career, one avenue I see is making a switch from manager to strategic leader. I am looking at courses or certifications in strategic leadership. What advice might you have in making this transition and are there any courses, certifications, or books that you might recommend.

Hey all - how do you guys sell or lead things you aren’t genuine believing in? It’s almost like a fake it till you make it? I find it difficult to be behind a product or technology I don’t understand enough of or believe and I previously used to work in sales. Also any books/techniques which help. I am often too genuine or objective.

When an agency is about to hire you as a creative lead but without seeing your book to find out what you had done in your career, is that a red flag to you as a creative?

You’re the lead team on a campaign. The campaign is yours. Another team helps on extensions and activations. After they develop one, you get brought on to help see it through. Do you still put it in your book?

I believe improving one’s sales conversion rate is something everyone want to improve but no one wants to admit they would like to work it. Funny how lawyers will spend thousands on seminars to improve trial skills. But this topic is not discussed in our profession. I have read books in sales. But am unable to find any for lawyers. I want convert every lead I can. Does anyone have tips, books, cle’s or studied this topic?

Recently started a book about politics and the author argues that we (the educated, professional class) are to blame for polarization. Since we are well paid and generally unaffected regardless of who is in power, our positions on issues can be uncompromising. Furthermore, we don’t go out and really engage in campaigns. This is because we’d rather argue amongst ourselves from home. This leads to vacuums where bad actors can take up the mantle of leadership. What do you think about that?

Just curious how many interviews did you go on before landing a job? Iv already had 5 different interviews where I make it to the final rounds and they just say they are going a different direction with someone with more experience. I have one that I’m waiting back to hear from and have a second round with Amazon. If I don’t get these I’m debating on if I should read/study leadership books to try and change my approach when answering these questions.

How do you guys decide where to invest money? I just bought a 2 bedroom apartment that I’m confident will bring long term growth. I plan on buying another apartment for rental purposes in the next few months. But I want to start investing in the market in a smart way that will lead to greater financial stability.
