Any advice for an Account person (I was most recently a Senior Account Director at VaynerMedia) to make the shift into Strategy? I’ve been in an Account / Client Service role for so long and am finding it hard to transition into strategy at my level / find someone that will give me the chance. Do I have to start from the bottom and work my way up again?

Some of these posts are ridiculous. They’re like just exited consulting to FAANG/Niche Startup with $150k base and $400k TC with 6 months of experience, you can do it too! Then they ghost or explain that they are a former SWE 😬 coming from MBB. Going to some super Niche role that people with crazy backgrounds are recruited for. Congrats, but not everyone has that background

I just declined an offer. They have been on calls with me for a month begging me to join (but the position has only 20k salary hike). I’m staying in D as I see myself some potential here even though I only got 3000 salary increase. I hope I’m making a good decision 😫

Need honest opinion from 🐠. Background: previously a big four consultant in tech consulting. Didn’t like the tech implementation work at all and needed to pivot. After obtaining my masters in data science, I landed a good role that actually uses what I’ve learned. However, this role also made me realize that data science (at least in this organization) has a very low ceiling, and is also highly on the technical side. I see myself eventually wanting to move to leadership/management positions.

Honestly, this whole experiment has taught me that I can do everything I normally do at work from home remotely pretty easily. Working from home saves me two/three hours a day commuting, toll money, gas money, etc. I don’t intend to go back until I feel it would cost me my job not to do. I would also be surprised if workers don’t ride this COVID train out with where they currently work until it’s over and then find a new company that continues to allow them to work the same way going forward.
