What are HR recruiters doing on LinkedIn all day that they can’t respond back to a message? They reach out about chatting about a role, I reply, then they never open my message. Lol what’s the point then?

How to respond to a recruiter re: a position that they would like you to apply for that is 2-3 below where you are at?

What’s the deal with Shake Shack? I feel like I see them on every agency’s website, and now they’re hiring in-house?

Curious about other people’s experiences: is it typical for part of an art director’s responsibilities to help with resourcing, look at burn reports, scopes, and manage people? Feels like these responsibilities would be for a more senior role but this is currently part of what I do at my job. Wanted to get a gut check if I’m being asked to have more responsibility than what my title reflects.

I have landed a freelance gig as well as a full-time position, I have agreed to take both. The full-time requires me to be 8 hours at work which is fine, I am a Senior Magazine Copy Editor... and the other one is for proofreading which is for a UK company. I am so afraid I might be spreading myself too thin 😬

I may have picked the absolute work time to do so, but I'm finally fulfilling my life long dream of moving to NYC.
If your agency is hiring, I'm looking for a copy/concept focused role.

Does anyone have any experience moving from accounts to creative? I’m currently in the late stages of interviewing for an account coordinator position at an agency but my goal is to get into copywriting. Should I take it if I’m offered it? Or wait on my other copywriter apps?

My last role ended very unexpectedly when I left after three months in order to return to my home state to caretake for a declining family member, then, more unexpectedly,another (my beloved grandfather and grandmother). Coming out the other end now (or trying to, in all honesty), it has been ~6 months out of the industry, where I had up until this point been full-time and regularly employed, with no prior “gaps” in my experience. That aside, am looking for some honest, real feedback and advice:

Senior leader resignation tips? I landed a brand side role with a big pay bump / benefits 🥹 Am currently in a leadership role at an agency reporting to my ceo.

Am considering offering 3 weeks notice given my relationships and reputation with the agency, my growing team and our largest clients. I don’t think my ceo would fire me on the spot or can match salary/benefits, but he will be very upset.

Any tips to navigate resignation?

Are there any independent digital media buyers out there? I have ongoing client requests for media buys but don’t have the capacity in house at the moment. Would love to know if that’s a position that exists out in the market and if anyone has a referral.

Realizing I’m clueless about how scoping works. How do agencies normally set up retainer scopes when the workload is expected to significantly ebb and flow throughout the year? (Like wtf does TurboTax do, since they go so heavy before tax season but then go mostly dark?) Do you understaff and hiring freelancers when big waves hit, or overstaff and use the slow moments to do pro bono work, research, new biz, etc?

Is anyone here familiar with the MSc in Strategic Marketing at Imperial Business School in London? I got accepted and I'm having a hard time sussing out if it's worth it. I'd love to get a brand-side marketing role in the UK (my partner lives there) but if that doesn't work out, I'm nervous that the school isn't well-regarded in the US and I'd struggle to get a good job here if I have to come back. Does anyone have any thoughts/advice? Thank you!

How does Advertising Agency work these days with their hiring system? One day the HR contacts you saying you can be a great fit for a position, 5 days later the HR tell you that it won’t work this time with no explanation.

In case anyone needs to hear this: if a recruiter asks you what your current salary is and you don’t share it and they ask you why and tell you it’s so they have your best interests in mind, that’s certainly not the case. It’s usually the exact opposite - they want to cap your desired salary for that role by using your current salary as a reference point that works against you.

Switched from an advertising agency to a brand role about 6 months ago. In one of my first discussions with my manager, they said that goals aren’t overly important and they know how I will be progressing. I’ve never heard anyone else talk about goals and if they are required. Is this a red flag? Should I push for them so I can use them in the future to push for a promotion when the time comes? I feel very weird about not having anything to track against as I’ve always had them at past jobs

If you talk to an independent recruiter, but then the hiring agency recruiter reaches out, do you let the independent recruiter know?

ACD/AD- must be into sports, activations, sportswear, athletics. Clients are big social brands- lots of design & art direction showcasing your love of sport & this particular vertical.

Senior PM- internal ops, timelines, scoping, schedules for fairly large AOR ~2M budget. Experience with hefty amount of production and competing timelines for deliverables.

Account Manager- 3-5 years exp. Client facing.

I left a job at a small agency in early 2022 & laterally transitioned to supervisor role at larger agency. The small agency now has an open role on my former team & reached out if I was interested. The open position is for an associate director role, but they hinted at keeping me at the same level (another lateral transition). This seems like a waste of my last year, but my current role has me on the brink of burnout. What do I do?

What was “the moment” in your role you knew it/you were officially done? Whether the result ended up being resignation, firing, etc. Was there a specific instance you can point to?

Man I’m unfulfilled and it’s killing my mental health. All my role entails is trivial design work. I can’t leave due to financial situation and I feel like I stand no chance at landing a new gig since all I have to show is shitty banners. When you have a vacancy on your team as a hiring manager, what are your thoughts when an applicant cold emails you? Like, they found your email address and emailed you to express special interest in the role?

During Covid I bounced around a lot (had 3 jobs over 21 months) and was actually fired from my last job in December.

Happy to say that I’ve am celebrating a year in a stable role! The longest held position since my role was cut in June 2020
