What are the differences and similarities of copywriting at an ad agency vs. a branding agency?
The reason I ask: I feel unfulfilled in my current role as a direct-response copywriter at a tech company and am thinking through next steps. I crave coming up with creative ideas and concepting with a close-knit team. I also appreciate brand strategy (I started as a junior strategist at an agency before realizing I belong on the other side of the brief).

How much should you be making as a mid-level AD with 2 years experience in that role in LA?

So I was offered a role in Strategy Consulting in after 2 years in Risk Consulting however, after 2 years I’ve only worked on Internal audit engagements few ad hocs such as updating risk register and the delegation of authority matrix.

Honestly speaking I am doing good and I am up for promotion in October however I am not fully enjoying my time but I fear that the move would not be a good and I can’t hit the ground running which scares me.

Any advice and past experiences in such career shit?

Would love to speak with anyone who made an exit from consulting shortly after reaching M. How did you think about the following?

1. What functional roles will you actually be good fit for? How does one really know? My resume of case work just confuses me tbh

2. What level should you / did you shoot for? Is AD a realistic goal?

3. What platform did you use to search for jobs? LinkedIn?

3. How did you shortlist your set of target companies?

4. How did you ultimately land the "right" job?

Does anyone at the Junior or mid-level here not aspire to be a creative director?

I was in a conversation with some coworkers today about the advertising career ladder. Whether from lack of desire or ability to manage others, not everybody will rise to CD level. Does anyone here want to stay a writer or art director your whole career instead of moving into a management position? And is that even possible without aging out or getting priced out?

I was rejected for a strategy role at an advertising agency after 8 interviews because they felt I needed more agency experience. I’m in my 1st job post-undergrad doing in-house comms/mktg and currently getting my masters in Ad/PR. I’m dying to be in an agency setting. Does anyone have recommendations on how to showcase my skills, or build out “agency skills” while not being in an agency?

I have an interview for Spotify’s NYC marketing team next week. Role requires 8 years experience and is within their ad division. What’s a reasonable salary to ask? $150K?

Recruiter or recruiting firm suggestions when looking for an Art Director position in LA at a creative ad agency?

What is your TC going to be this year as a lead dev/tech lead [non-cleared]? I am looking at $165k. Feels low considering 10+ years of experience. A friend of mine at McKinsey gets more ad base + guaranteed performance bonus for a similar role.

I’m thinking about hiring an admission counselor, but debating who to hire.
(1) A former member of Ad Com of the T10 school that I quite want to get in. Left ~5 year ago, read lower hundreds of files. No team, just 1 person. $ is ~80% of (2)
(2) The larger orgs that being mentioned by this bowl frequently. Think Stacy, Stratus, Square One. The team based/double-check systems and the unverifiable track record section on the website look comforting to me.

Any LA shops hiring entry level art director/content creators? Love creating social, video, and pretty much anything in between.

Admist the pandemic, I moved from an ad /media agency as data analyst (with 3.5 YoE) to a big fitness tech company in a non media team. However due to lack of industry knowledge, I had to settle for the same level instead of getting the senior level role. Now that I'm in this team for over 6 months I've learnt a lot. I want to ask for a performance evaluation and possibly a promotion. Can someone help me understand how much hike% I can expect in this situation provided my manager agrees? Thanks!

I accepted an offer for a design internship at a pretty solid agency, but was offered a full-time junior AD position at an agency I'd prefer to work at right after signing the paperwork for the first place that offered me the internship. What should I do?
My internship starts tomorrow and pays less than half of what the junior AD position would pay and will just barely be enough to pay rent. My partner is currently unemployed and I don't know how I'm going to support us both on 14/hr.

I started a new job before the art director I’m supposed to be paired with started. I was excited to work with her because she has a good book, but she apparently doesn’t want a partner and was surprised to hear that she had one. I feel like I’m in an awkward position because it’s not like we’re tied down and can switch it up if it really doesn’t work? Feeling like she doesn’t like my book. Any advice would be welcome 🙏🏻

Anyone have thoughts on working at PE portco? Have an offer as a strategy & bizops associate at a company that is growing rapidly via acquisition. However, not sure where this would lead my career. Role reports directly to CEO and CFO, as I would basically be their handyman for integration and other ad hoc business needs. Ideally, I would like to leverage this experience to work for other PE portcos. Have 3.5 YOE.

I’m currently a financial analyst at an ad agency. Coming close to 2years in this role was a intern for 6 months prior at the same agency. I just landed an offer at an in-house shop and would love to hear the pros and cons working client side over a traditional agency. To be honest, agency life has sucked my soul dry and I’m looking for a little bit more sanity for my next position. Any insights would be appreciated. ✌🏻

To the MGNI folk, has anyone taken a look at FLNT? Not the same business model, but a solid co. in advertising with good fundamentals. The prelim Q4 numbers look good, 2021 should be a growth year (given the ad space in general and outlook). They are profitable already, it seems this one can really pop when it gets noticed. I own MGNI and opened a position with shares and calls in FLNT on Fri.

Thoughts on leaving client-facing role / consulting for a role as “chief of staff” for an internal VP? Pitched as supporting development of GTM strategy in addition to supporting budgeting, knowledge management, and other ad hoc internal projects. Like the firm and the people met so far, but concerned about career trajectory / growth opportunities (which seem a bit ambiguous to me compared to staying in traditional consulting).

Has anyone transitioned from ad agency to sales (or vice versa)? I love the pitching and client relationship aspect of my job and am increasingly disliking the other agency aspects. I also want to be in a remote role. Just wondering if I’m being naive since I haven’t worked in true sales but I’m beginning my research so open to any advice!
