Our shop is currently hiring for the following positions: Copywriter, Content Strategist, Account Manager (Montreal), Account Manager (Toronto), Intermediate Wordpress Developer. Full time and contract positions available.

I need some advice:
I recently started a position as a senior writer. I jumped from a copywriter role with this new position. It has not been a smooth onboarding at all. My manager moved off my brand before I could even start working. I was doing a bunch of sitting around for the good part of 2 months! Now since there’s a budget issue they want me to take the spot of the freelancer that was the lead writer with only one real week working under this freelancer. Weird to anyone at all?

I'm currently applying to a position at an agency independently and just got a call from my recruiter about a copywriter role for a different project at the same agency. I would take it if I don't get the first one but I'm a little confused as to what to do because the second one seems like it would start immediately but I don't want it as much as the first one. What are the key role differences between a Senior Copywriter and an ACD Copywriter? When is one “ready” to be promoted from one to the next?

Why do job applications for art directors have way more requirements than copywriters these days? I’m sick of being expected to not only art direct and design, but to be the illustrator, animator, editor, 3D artist, UX/UI designer, etc. all while my copywriter friends snag interviews and gigs left and right with ease bc hiring managers just expect them to do the 1 job they’re supposed to do! I need a job and I’m so so so tired of it!

How likely is it that an AD could ever work their way to an executive/cco role? What does it take? Might it be better to switch tracks from AD->CW ?

Say I wasn’t deterred by the hard work, sacrifice or the exemplary talent that’s required; I just want to make sure there’s even a pragmatic trajectory I should be working towards.

I left an agency about 1.5 years ago (content manager and prev social) to go in house (copywriter). Long story short, agency wants to offer me a senior director role. However, this isn't client facing and would be marketing for the agency itself.

Has anyone ever been promoted to ACD only to feel like they were much happier at the Senior CW/AD level? I’m going through that right now and wondering if it will pass with time as I get more experience in the role. Or, if it doesn’t, what do you do about it? Would it look horrible to eventually take a job somewhere else back at the Senior CW level? I’ve always loved being the maker - focusing on writing and concepting. Having a lot of anxiety that this new position isn’t the right path for me.

Just had a bomb dropped on me. Left an agency on Friday to go work at a new place only to find out that they had to start a hiring freeze/cancel my employment. Now I’ve got no job heading into 2021. Yahoo.

BIPOC who started working in healthcare advertising and eventually were able to leave, how’d you do it?

My spec book gets me interviews for junior and mid copywriter positions, but when they ask me what kind of work I’m doing at my current agency, the whole conversation goes south. They either become immediately disinterested, or beam up and suddenly the interview is only about an open pharma role, which is more frustrating because if I want to stay in health I’d go for copy supervisor roles.

Would anyone at DDB NYC be willing to look at my book and let me know if I’m currently good enough to apply for the open CW position? Applying elsewhere I’ve received wild feedback, ranging from “this is very good” to “you should burn the whole thing down.” I just want to get better without wasting anyone’s time or irritating recruiters at a place I’d like to eventually work.

Advice for a mid-level copywriter who wants to move into a purely advertising role?

I have a few integrated campaigns in my portfolio but the best projects I’ve done have been TOV and quite a lot of CRM. Thinking about putting some spec/just for fun projects in there to show my conceptual, advertising chops? Any thoughts on how I can approach my portfolio with this in mind gratefully received 🙏🏻

I’ve been in strategy (social and Comms) for 8 years — with each move up, I feel myself getting farther and farther away from the creative process, which is my favorite part of my job.

What roles are there that straddle strategy/creative? Is there a way to transition to a creative position — and what does that look like? From everything I’ve seen, it seems like I would have to start over at entry level Copywriter and a lateral move to a comparable Creative position is non-existent?
