I just got a call about a position at KPMG to be a Creative Writer that is part of advisory in a new “creative pod.” They say it’s cross functional, a part of consulting, and client facing, but it’s labeled as a creative writer? Not sure if this is a job I should take because on paper it looks like a demotion. Anyone have more insights into this role? Does anyone know why it’s labeled as “creative writer” and not just an analyst since its cross-functional?

I am a lawyer (based in the UK) and have been practising for 15+ years (financial services/banking). I love being a lawyer but I would also love to do something more creative or more independent. Has anyone moved from law into another role or has anyone done something more creative alongside their full time legal career? I’m feeling a bit stuck!

What does a creative resource manager do? I just got hired at a big agency. I met my team, including my partner and my CD & ECD, who hired me. But later in the day someone stop by at my desk & said he is a creative resource manager & my supervisor who gives me assignments & approve my time offs. During my hiring process & orientation day everyone said my CD is my supervisor who assign me projects & approve my time offs. Did he do a Power move on me? I will be nice but didn’t like the attitude!

Thoughts on going in-house for a high level creative role? I’ve only worked at agencies and generally like it, but curious to hear of anyone esp at ECD/VP creative level who did the switch. For a well known brand, does cool stuff and would offer a good comp package.

My book is just spec and side projects. I’m trying to get a new junior-to-mid role because I’ve gotten nothing good produced where I’m at, and I have zero faith this will change if I stick around.

I’m asked for work samples from recruiters and CDs even though I make clear that what I’ve done doesn’t reflect who I am as a creative. Think CRM/DM/B2B stuff. They insist on it, and I never hear back afterwards.

Not sure what to do. Almost feel like I’d be better off erasing my agency experience.

Hi! I found a research strategy role at a large agency in SF but I’m scared I won’t get to be creative. Does anyone have experience with moving between brand and research strategy? Can you offer some advice?

Imagine hiring someone to paint your house. The painting company sends their planners and accountants and social media managers to you with the painter. They tell the painter, THE ONE TRAINED AND HIRED TO PAINT, that, "the team had some thoughts." They proceed to absolutely wreck your shit. Then they blame the painter when you don't like it.
Apply that same metaphor to any job. You down to let the hospital manager give some thoughts on your surgery?

It’s a small startup. HR interviewed me and asked all the hard hitting questions (how do you get design inspiration, how do you deal with design roadblocks, what sets you apart for this role?) which I thought was odd for a screening interview.

They made some affirmative noises then said the next step would be a design test (one pager) which I would present to a panel of interviewers including the CMO.
Anyone else think this is odd?

Can anyone advise salary on a Creative Lead role in London? It’s tech (in-house) and comes with RSUs, another number I have no idea about.

I started a job at a startup right after Labor Day. Was told the Friday before Thanksgiving that it was ending at the end of November (due to some internal politics that had to be figured out, they decided to get rid of my new role)

I don’t want to job hunt again, after just starting a new role and am debating freelancing. Has anyone made a successful career by freelancing in non-creative roles? Specifically digital strategy & analytics.

Since I'm not from UK and I don't have a clue about how much salary I should expect - I have 10+ YOE.

How do you interpret “Years of experience“ in salary surveys and reports?
Here’s an example. Does a Creative Director with 7+ yrs of experience have 7+ yrs in the role of a Creative Director? Or does that 7 yrs include their work as a Senior Designer?

A big tech/creative conundrum!

Copywriter w/ a decade of big name agency work, few awards but no lions or pencils. Making decent salary and decent work. Fairly happy but worried about balancing kids/money/work next year.

Have a great offer for a copy role at Facebook (salary, benefits and stock are amazing and way above what I could ever earn at an agency).

Would this effectively be my forever exit from the agency world? Ive heard once you leave you can’t come back. Any experience with this?

I'm working at an agency that doesn't have the ACD role. On paper that means I'm a Sr. Creative. That said I was an ACD at my previous agency, I'm being paid like an ACD now, and the role is that of an ACD. If/when I leave how unethical is it to say I was an ACD here - just for the sake of optics on LinkedIn/elsewhere.

I'm looking for a new role at places similar to VSA Partners or Mother Design. Does anyone have experience at those places or similar and what appeals to them in a successful creative. I have 7 years experience and I'm mid-level to senior in my career.

How do y’all deal with imposter syndrome? I’ve been job hunting for my first Junior role and it’s so damn depressing never getting replies or any leads. It’s starting to make me question my book and myself. I’ve always been creative and don’t think I’d want to do any kind of work that doesn’t fulfill my weird creative side. Happy Friday!

Interviewing with a FAANG for an ACD/Creative Lead position and trying to wrap my head around salary negotiations. What are people making at similar tech companies with 6-8 years of experience (base salary and total comp)?

We hate it here. Anyone hiring creative producers?

I’m trying to make the jump from agency > platform (not FB…more like Spotify or Twitter etc.). I work with reps at these places as part of my job, but technically their loyalty is to my clients (the ones spending $ on their platform), not to me, working at the client’s creative agency. So it feels weird asking them for a recommendation or referral, but that would obviously be easier than applying on the jobs site... How do I utilize my “network” without making things awkward?

I thought I was interested in data science but I don’t care too much for the technical side of things. I am not sure what role or title I could transition to but some guidance would be nice… I’m interested in:
- coming up with creative ways to make “things” better
- little to no coding
- interacting with colleagues with ability to mentor or manage
- travel when necessary (25%)
- remote work
- ownership and autonomy of work
- high visibility role

Any ideas on what role would fit me?
