Small but growing firm. Two independent advisors and an office director. We are actively hiring for a marketing and events director. Curious on how others compensate this type of role and what type of bonus structure are successful? We do a mix of aum and annuities primarily.

I am a 7,63, insurance administrative associate with 12 years in the industry. When did you know you were ready to move toward an advisor or para planner role. I am a mother of two young children as well and I don’t want deprive them of having a present mother.

I interviewed for an employed role and knocked my business plan pitch out the park, but could tell I disappointed them with my technical. By my own admission I’m lacking in this area as only have 1.5 years experience with a poor manager who only had me focus on biz dev.

They asked me what my salary expectations are but had already hinted my experience would knock me down a pay grade.

As it was 4 of them and 1 of me I said I would email them. How do I play this without lowballing myself?

I’m looking for advice on career path. I’m interested in becoming an advisor (studying for CFP) coming from 3 years in hybrid FP analyst and paraplanner role. My team is located in CA and merged with a larger WA practice (both Ameriprise), however I live in Mass. Is it realistic to be a fully remote FA? Time zone not an issue. I really like my company and team, and there are FAs looking to give clients. I know I can find another practice in MA but I’d prefer to stay with my company. Thoughts?

I’m a military veteran and strategy consultant making ~ $200k annual. I hate what I do and have always wanted to be a financial advisor. I’m currently a Account Exec. with 2.5 years of experience and our whole book is company 401k plans. We help manage 80 plans with a $250 million in assets. I have my securities license and am on track to becoming an advisor myself in the next year or so. My wife and I have a high net worth and we have been looking at Financial Advisors. We are aligned in our strategy of index fund investing in S&P, total market, and total international type funds. I don’t currently see the value in hiring a financial advisor since I don’t think they will provide enough value to us compared to what we will pay them. If I did hire one, I’d lean toward paying someone hourly basis or per session. What sort of places might align to this? (% of assets = too much $$$)

Ed Jones FAs- I saw where the firm is going to do a partnership offering next year. This is going to be my first offering (was too green last go around) and am curious as to what people around my production level have gotten in the past. I’m level 8 (700k production), about 250k in T-12 profit. I’ve served in leadership roles, including a “Key leader” role. Is thinking 40-50k offering too much?

Does anyone have any experience with the Financial Advisor role at Regions?

Any one else buying someone’s book/business? We are independent & the owner is (sort of) still working. They are gone a few weeks a month on trips, mostly fun. I’m the succession plan but no formal exit strategy has been made. I am on the catastrophic agreement. They feel they are retiring so they are acting accordingly, but no formal plan in place and gives me little to no autonomy. It’s very stressful and honestly they are in the way of progress but not setting something formal up.

Anyone know anything about the pca role at BofA private bank? Is it salary bonus? Or commission like ML? What are performance metrics based off?

Debating an offer from JP Morgan for VP Private Banker. Would be a big comp increase but also a role change. I'm currently a private banker on the lending side with 15 years experience with a cush gig and zero sales pressure. JPM pros are comp, a new challenge, build skills, expand network. Cons I lose my nice corner office and 30 hour work week, worse benefits/perks, and I'm apprehensive about the culture/sales pressure. Any insight or advice?

I need some advice on negotiating payout structure. I work for a pretty large firm in that we have 7 advisors and manage around $500M AUM. I’m just getting started transitioning from a primary licensed staff role to commission-only FA. Payout for me would be 40%. Is this normal? Should this be negotiated? Can it change as I get more business. Also side note I just brought in my first whale and I’m super excited about it!

I have almost 3 years working for a RIA (first and only job). I really like the company, colleagues, culture etc. I started as an analyst and now my role is portfolio management. When you change investment firms as a financial advisor is the firm you move to given access to how many assets you manage and your revenue produced from your last position from a third party?
