How does the role we play in risk advisory change as we advance in rank? I am almost done with my first year and all I have done is take screen shots, draw boxes, and change dates (which I get, someone has to do it so it falls to the staff). I am interested in how the work changes, due to covid I feel like I have no visibility as to the work the higher ups do. All I know is seniors review my red boxes and prep questions for client calls. What else do you do as you progress?

Typical promotion from staff 2 to senior? On the tech side, HCOL. Trying to weigh exit opportunities I've been getting.

Offer: 110 tc for a Sr role at a smaller florida Healthcare company. Currently run by PE, planned SPAC soon.

Current: staff 2, ~75k in data analytics in northeast.

I think the move will be nice and also it's a nice comp increase. However I'll be getting promoted soon, and worried that jumping to a smaller company will hurt future prospects. Thoughts?

Trying to figure out what are some logical exit ops from my current position to industry. 4YOE, SC - 2 in data analytics consulting, 2 in M&A analytics. Licensed CPA but never audited. Would biz ops or chief of staff at a start up be possible?

I was just promoted to senior at a mid size firm a few months ago (1.5 years audit exp, 1 year in tax prior to that, CPA license) and am strongly considering a move to pwc through a referral. I'm 99% sure I'll be brought on as an experienced staff if hired. Should I expect a pay cut? I currently make 76k in a HCOL.

Managers and above, would you hesitate to staff somebody with Asperger's on a client-facing role?

Graduated from a low tier school in 2014 with a mediocre GPA. The only work that has had me in court is through probono cases.
What can I do to market myself to be a solid associate candidate?

Any other B4 staff get the impression their leadership continues to sell work without having the staffing capacity to execute? Not seeing any real efforts or at least success on the hiring front to help out either. Busy season is setting up to be disastrous if something doesn’t get sorted out soon.

i just had an excellent review with my supervisors. we are aligned i am ready to be promoted. i will be moving from project manager to senior project manager.

the catch; my company has laid off 75% of its staff, and cut our salaries by 25%.

timing is unclear, since we work in the live entertainment space. what is fair to ask for?

i have 7 years work force experience, am the only one in my position, touch every creative deliverable the agency makes, and updated and streamlined 10+ processes.

Now we have a project kicking off - been told there’s no role for me. Instead I’ll be shipped out to an alternative offering as staff aug. Despite team still hiring. Management being vague (‘we’ll see’) when I question them on plan for me, but everyone else has had schedule populated. Also left out of some team catch ups.

Can someone tell what is the role of Chief Of Staff in industry? What kind of designation is this.

2nd year staff in financial services tax compliance, currently looking elsewhere. Had an interview at a smaller public firm (less then 400 employees between 2 offices) for an advisory role doing a wide variety of roles/projects and much more actual accounting. My ultimate goal is to leave Tax but I’m hesitant to leave B4 before senior promo (this October). Any advice? Is it worth staying til senior if I want to leave tax altogether anyway?

2nd year audit staff here. If I want to exit audit to go into a Sr. Financial Analyst role or industry accounting role, should I start applying right after my senior promotion? I really don’t want to do a year of audit as a senior.

Some recruiters are f**king clueless. I made it clear what my salary expectations are and then they try to push me into this staff accountant position paying 60k, which would be a 5k pay cut and I have 2 years exp about to be promoted to senior. Now she's giving me the runaround how I won't get a senior position in industry after I've told her I had interviews for senior positions already paying 85k+

So I’m excited I have three pretty solid options 1. Being a trust tax manager at a bank ( I’ve done banking/trust world before)
2. Contract to hire at a private equity firm 3. Staff accountant role at a healthcare company. Thoughts on these options?

Got a job as an assurance staff at big 4 for $50k and another position at a startup for $75k. I interned at the startup, loved the wbl but the role is basically AP. How do I pick?

Have possible exits as a Chief of Staff at a SaaS startup (20M in funding) and as a Strategy Manager at a well known D2C company. Both pay ~125K, though the startup is remote and D2C is in NYC.

Love the creative / fun culture of the D2C, and scared if I’ll measure up to the CEO’s expectations at the startup. I do wonder if the CoS position will demonstrate more growth. Thoughts?

Anyone else’s firm sometimes place consultants in an junior level staff aug role that has nothing to do with their career objectives?

How do u feel about very short interviews? I had a 12 minute one - they were glued to their watches & didn’t even prep. Agree u should track time & sure maybe I wasn’t a great fit. But they were very complimentary, asking questions & said they’d scheduled 15 minute calls back to back. It’s also silly to ask with 11 seconds left if I’ve questions. If I don’t, I don’t seem engaged, if I do, there’s no time. It seems like a robust staff role might merit 20 minutes. Am I nuts?

What sort of questions get asked for an employment reference (staff/senior level?)
If your referee is equivocal about some aspects of your work would it stop you getting a new role?

I got comfortable in my staff aug role where I work about 20hours a week. Asked to be off boarded but doesn’t seem like the current pipeline of projects will be any better... Two years out of undergrad and honestly haven’t learned or had to learn anything for these projects. Worried about my growth prospectives here.

How do you determine a good salary number for your area if it’s not a major city? Looking for exit Ops and I’m not sure how much I’m worth. Staff 1-2, CPA exams complete and half a year or so of B4. Does that warrant any higher salary than median?

In tax, want to get out and do audit, but getting into a public accounting role in audit is tough without taking about a $10k-$15k paycut. Would doing a staff accountant role (would be a small pay bump) let me transition to audit later? Or is this a bad plan?
