What exactly do you put on you resume for your prior experience as a B4 associate/junior staff if you are currently a senior associate? I feel as the experience undermines my current experience as a senior associate since the tasks I performed were basic audit procedures. I am debating between only leaving the position/duration or adding one simple bullet to describe the responsibilities. Does anyone have any tips? Thanks!

I have accepted a mid size company 6 months contract staff accountant role. However, I will have interviews with couple of large companies by the same week of my start date. My question is, if I’m lucky enough to get the offer, is it bad to leave the contract after a couple of months? I don’t see any legal restrictions.

Would you leave as a senior associate to be in a director role at an energy company “chief is staff” reporting to CEO and CFO. Leading investor relations?

So many tiny firm is getting a ton of new clients right now, but instead of hiring another staff member, they told us we need to work faster. So, any tips on finding a new job? How do you find a company you want to work for?

What are the role progressions at EY? Is staff an associate equivalent at other firms?

Leaving as a staff 1 during busy season for a new position/company. Opinions?

Thoughts on leaving client-facing role / consulting for a role as “chief of staff” for an internal VP? Pitched as supporting development of GTM strategy in addition to supporting budgeting, knowledge management, and other ad hoc internal projects. Like the firm and the people met so far, but concerned about career trajectory / growth opportunities (which seem a bit ambiguous to me compared to staying in traditional consulting).

Enrolling in MBA this fall and want to pivot to digital strategy consulting afterwards. Currently staffed on a project doing manual regulatory work (staff aug). The only positives are that I manage an offshore team and client is great and supportive of me going back to school. Is it worth trying to switch projects to something a bit more related to my post mba goal or should I just stick with this role for the next 5 months?

Do I take this job knowing these circumstances:

Pros:
- Sizable pay bump from previous job (still young)
- Currently unemployed so I wouldn’t be anymore
- More client-facing exposure (even though no travel)

Cons:
- Startup (risky)
- Team lead I’d be working for recently started and is just beginning to build a staff
- Zero experience in the industry so learning curve would be very steep
- Unclear how the role would benefit me long term because the job responsibilities are vague b/c it’s new

Has anyone noticed the growing number of chief of staff positions in startups / tech companies?

I can't figure out if it's a good role or not. I'm sure, like in consulting, "it depends," but from what I've read you're either an EA who will be stuck there forever or on a "springboard" to the c-suite.

Anyone have experience / insight? It seems like a good role for a generalist advisor who focuses on special projects (i.e. all of us) but curious to hear others' thoughts

Anyone move into a Chief of Staff role? If so, how did you like it? Was it rewarding and did you see opportunities to grow? Thanks!

Staff/Associate 2 thinking about jumping to a different big 4 for a senior role. Should I wait until a potential promotion to senior 1 at my current firm in the next 4-5 months?

Anyone have experience interviewing at a university for a staff role? What to expect? Virtual interview with the Manager, Director, and Recruiter. First round was a phone call with the Manager and she read out 5 typical interview questions.

Have any fishes joined a startup as a chief of staff after 2 - 5 YOE? What did your comp look like? How do you enjoy your role, and what about it is different from consulting?

Should you stay in a position that has very limited promotion opportunities because of its org structure? We have a relatively small team of various bands of staff level who report to a Director who has no intentions of adding additional mgt layers (understandably). There is apparently growth opportunities on a IC track, but those don’t seem to be granted as often as management promotions. Interviewing for staff attorney position at a State Supreme Court on Monday. I was told there will be a panel interview with 90 minutes allotted time. I already had to do a written test. What should I expect from the panel interview? What are the best questions to ask the panel?

I’m seeing a lot of posts on here today about people being miserable about the start of another busy season. If you’re located in the SWFL area (preferably Tampa/Bradenton/Sarasota) and want to work a more manageable busy season, our firm is hiring! We have a posting up for Tax Staff, but we’re also looking for Seniors. Wonderful culture, in growth mode, truthfully team-oriented with hands-on partners, manageable hours and flexible work arrangements, etc.

Interviewing for a chief of staff role at a startup that’s raised about $14M so far. What should I look for when assessing if this is a good opportunity?

Would work directly with CEO and expecting cash compensation of 100K and 0.25% of equity. Is the equity % low?

CEO hopes to sell at 100M, meaning the equity would be valued at 60K a year (4 yrs), but this seems optimistic to me.

2 YOE for reference.

Do large tech companies (ie FAANG) extend offers at a lower level than you applied for? I’m considering switching back to an IC role. Level-wise, this probably equates to a staff level engineer (E6 FB, L6 Google, etc). But due to my possibly premature foray into management at a startup for the past 3 years, I feel I might not be as technically strong as if I stayed an IC. Do I go for the staff level roles that I may be less qualified for or optimize for getting an offer at a Sr. Eng lvl role?

I’m a staff w/ MS in Comp Sci. What avenues or roles exist for someone to exit into the industry (mostly big tech) after spending 2 years at a big 4? Is it sensible to wait until you’re a Manager (4 years) and why if this is the case ? What about making a move within the first year itself?

What’s the best role for an accountant who doesn’t want to be doing technical accounting? I feel like public accounting is for me outside of the hours, but it’s all I know. I’m interested in sales, staff development, training, recruiting , community relations, etc.

Need some advice, I’m an experienced audit staff looking to transition to FDD or Valuation after busy season. Does it make sense to make the jump at the staff level or should I wait for the senior promotion? Also which one of these two areas would give me a more valuable/transferable skill set? I’m not sure what I want to do long term yet, but I know I want to work in a client facing role and not exit to industry.

Does anyone know what corporate staff attorneys at BigLaw(NYC) do? Is it similar to doc review attorneys? Is it a role that can lead to associate positions at another BigLaw firm?

7th Year Associate on Short Leash. I began a new position this week and literally no support staff is here, so I’m having to learn a few things on my own. No biggie, but every time I show any initiative they freak out treat me like a child about to run into traffic. I came from a place where I was given considerable autonomy, so the transition feels a little rough. Any advice?

I recently started a role in industry where 2 managers report to me and they each have 3-4 staff and senior accountants report to them. It’s a large company with over 5,000 employees. I have weekly 1:1 meetings with the 2 managers. How do I determine how much direct interaction and communication to have with the staff and seniors? Specifically I’m looking for examples from other people in similar roles.

Big 4 Staff II, with a CPA and MAcc. I know I do not enjoy auditing and likely wouldn't enjoy a traditional accounting role either. Truly cannot see myself doing this for the rest of my life Any ideas on how can I pivot out of accounting/auditing without throwing away the experience and credentials I already have?

GRE or GMAT? I didn’t take many quant classes (Econ major: econometrics, math classes and stats - 3/4 I got Bs in). Took the GMAT once and scored a 670 and just struggle at cracking the test, and have been thinking of switching to the GRE because it’s easier, but I’m worried my lackluster quant background isn’t a good look.

Other stats: 3.6 from T20 State School (UCLA/Michigan/UVA), consultant, then chief of staff role at mid-size tech company, and now in strategy at brand name startup

As a SM/Director at Big 4, the typical exits to industry are Director or VP level roles. What are your thoughts on a Chief of Staff level role/exit at a T2 tech company? The opportunity for this role is direct access to the C-suite and the Board, reporting directly to the C-level exec. This role (hopefully) is not a glorified EA but was communicated to me to have a lot of responsibility and visibility. Thoughts? What TC would make sense?

I’m planning to put in my two weeks in late dec/ early Jan (waiting for a work visa to transfer to the new job). I’m trying to lay low but I’m about to roll off my current project and a manager I really liked working with has already called dibs to staff me in a very visible/ great role in Jan with a client he says is very important to him. I don’t know how to tell him not to pitch me for this without revealing that I might be leaving soon. Hate doing this but don’t know how not just ‘go with it

For managers, when you were promoted and transitioned into being a first year manager what was your experience? Did it take time for staff and senior leaders to acclimate to your new role?

I am a 2nd year staff in audit. I want to look for exit opportunities after my 2nd busy season. Any suggestion which roles I should look into? I wanted to see everyone’s opinion based on individual experience since many of you have already been through this. I want to have a work life balance and stop living my life for work.
