Attention Woke White People: Don’t be this woke white person. Laid off in April. Asked my ACD for final comps of my work for my portfolio. She told me it hadn’t gone public but to check back. I hit her up in May. Nothing. I hit her up in June. Nothing. I hit her up in August. Ignored...ignored...ignored in three separate texts. Finally emailed and mentioned reaching out to the C-level executives and like magic, boom! I get the work in 20 minutes flat. Don’t post BLM stuff if you’re a d*ck.
I feel maybe this is the last thing people wanna hear rn but I just landed an ACD role at an amazing tech company after getting laid off from an awful AD agency role last fall and i’m just...😭🙏🏻
Got laid off today, how do I gather previous work for my portfolio? I reached out to my ACD for help gathering the finished projects I worked on but haven’t heard back. Thoughts?
I’ve applied to over 40 jobs since I was laid off in March. Not one click to my portfolio, per analytics. With a family of four, we are being spread thin. Not only is the income desperately needed, but my creative soul needs a release. I would be happy to do typical Art Director work but I’m “over qualified” for that and am never taken seriously when applying for work below CD/ACD. If anyone needs or know of any company needing freelance work, large or small—I’d really appreciate the lead. 🙏
When is it time to ask about or even start thinking about a promotion? I have been at my current agency for 15mo and it’s my first real job. Since Covid, I feel like I have a lot more responsibilities and have been doing what I think is AD and even senior AD stuff (especially the last two months since my agency laid off a bunch of people. Our team lost an ACD and AD). The AD role is open on our team. I’m wondering if I should ask about it or not. What can I do to show them I’m ready?
Former CW here. Went the planning route because i already had a corporate background that helped me start off at a higher pay. Recently laid off and trying to find an angle to exploit my creative and strategic expertise. I used to be a good cw -and even won awards- but i really needed the income planning offered. I’ve also done well as a planner. What can I do? I have mentored many creatives and strategists to know that I might be a good ACD, as I seem to have more talent at guiding than doing.
I’ve been at in-house publisher agencies for the last 3 years but just got laid off from my ACD role. Is it too aspirational to apply for a similar title at an agency? Should i go for senior CW gigs?
ACD (art) here— recently laid off in NYC... going nuts (anxious, depressed, bored, etc). any ideas?
A friend 🐠 was fired for accidentally sending confidential info to the wrong client and is worried about her chances of landing a new gig. How much should she tell the prospective employer about it?
Fishbowl needs to fix the auto categorization algorithm. Now the Fort Lauderdale shooting is under the Layoffs search based on the word "fired".
Are any of the firms planning more layoffs? Any specific industries? Is it just lack of demand causing this?
Is it weird that my CEO has not issued any communication to the company about the impact of the pandemic and what we are doing? Meanwhile, people are being laid off, furloughed and taking pay cuts.
As opposed to forcing layoffs, could a firm just request their employees to go on sabbatical for reduced pay?
I’m being let go. It came as a surprise because my time with the company I’ve gotten positive feedback. A couple of weeks ago my boss told me that I was being put on a 30 day performance review plan. The last 2 weeks I’ve gotten positive feedback about improvement but on Thursday my boss decided to cut the review plan short and give me an end date. Since I’ve been there <1 year I’m getting 2 weeks severance. Is there room for severance negotiation? A friend in HR (not ad) told me I should ask.
Hi! I’m a senior graphic designer newly laid off looking for a new in-house creative position. Let me know, thanks
I'm on an engagement and a manager jokingly told a new associate "you're fired" and the associate jokingly said back "f*** you". Do you think that was appropriate? Should that get held against her?
If you’re fired from one Service Line, how difficult would it be to get a job in a different service line a couple of years down the line?
Just curious, has anyone ever been laid off right before they were about to give their 2 week notice for leaving to another job?
Which firms have had layoffs within the last 6 months? Was it contained to a particular practice, "sub-group" or other characteristic? It seems like a lot of firms have been making cuts....
Just got back from 2 week long PTO and the only emails in my inbox are the mass corporate ones... Did I get fired without knowing it? Lol
For those admitted to MBA for 2020, when are you planning to tell your team (assuming they don’t already know) and when are you planning to leave work?
Haven’t had to prep for a case interview in awhile and need to refresh my skills within 5 days. Any recommendations on resources?
Do you have to provide pay stubs for recruiting process? Recruiter asked for comp info, but I declined to provide. I don't mind them verifying employment, but don't want offer based of current salary
Why does everyone hate indexed annuities? Who would turn down the potential of 12% annual returns with a guarantee that they can't lose any money, all for free and even a bonus?
How long after Kellogg R2 interviews do they make decisions? Or are all decisions communicated on the March 27th date?
How do you quell the rage when you see posts in other bowls where male consultants talk about not taking off too much time for paternity leave? I wish they had to push a baby out
Feeling blah. Got an offer and turned it down (I wouldn’t have taken), and told this other company that I got an offer, which resulted in the recruiter speeding up my 2nd interview. After the interview, they said that they’d need another interview and to speak to my refs before going forward, and that if I have an offer, they don’t want me to hold me back from taking it. Mind’s kind of in a jumble after this long process. Thoughts from my fellow fish?
The news about discussions falls no apart on immigration is depressing. Any other dreamers out there impacted?
I'm really good at my job, a high performer and have visibility with partners. However, I hate it. I wake up in the mornings feeling angry and resentful. I'm not able to exercise creativity as I'd like to, and feel I'd be happier in a completely different field. I'm scared to leave behind the reputation I've built. Big 4, it's safe/comfortable/addictive and Im addicted to being on cruise control. Anyone else been through the same?
People that are laid off, how long does it take to get another gig? I'm assuming people laid off for non-performance issues have easier time....?
Was told I had to leave a Marriott hotel last night mid stay due to a fire alarm compliance issue. They credited 6k points and gave me a room at a nearby Marriott property for the night. Con’t...
Thoughts on pharmacist salary vs consultant salary? My original path was to be a pharmacist(for the $$$) but instead choose to study IT(my interests) and ended up being a consultant. I’m Y3 making 120
The hard part about finding great AEs / VP of Sales is that the smart & resourceful ones are not looking for work, because they’re successful at their current role. That being said - if anyone is looking for an exciting new opportunity with no glass ceiling / cap on earnings, you should email us at email@example.com
I got an email from a recruiter for an interview for Sales Analytics & Insights Lead. Any idea of what to expect?
What salary makes a good exit for a 2nd year analyst making 80k? Received offer for 110k, should I counter with 120? In NYC
I have a PhD, but damn does an MBA not seem fun and useful for networking. Has anyone gone after PhD and a few years of consulting?
Are airlines extending the expiration dates on vouchers? I have $400 in AA vouchers expiring in a month and I prefer to not travel. Any recommendations / loopholes would be much appreciated!
