Anybody filed for unemployment with reason- terminated for performance. What was the procedure like? Do they interview you? I could have easily provided reason as laid off, but, didn’t want to give false info as the reason in my termination was performance, according to my termination letter. Questions that could be asked are: why were you terminated, were you given warning, when were you given warning , how long have you been performing this job, have you don’t this kind of job before.

Needing some general advice from my fellow federal contractors. This past year I joined a small consulting firm for a pay bump since I just started out 1 year ago and was placed at 95k on a policy team. Over the year there was 2 people fired from my team and one quit leaving just myself and the team "manager". This lead to way too much project deliverables not being met. End of year review was not favorable and it seems I was made the scapegoat taking a hit financially advice?

I’ve seen a few Partners getting laid off lately.
Any insights to that process? Does it differ from when the rest of us gets laid off?

I have a feeling that the Partner title is heavily overrated.

I got laid off last month. I got a meager income of 450$/week, barely enough to pay the student loans. Hoping to manage the rest of year with that and the small severance package that I will receive. But, besides that my family is home. My college freshman is here and shared her good grades with me. As a family, we have decided that we will keep our expenses low- stay home & stay warm. I feel more content and full with my family home, even if I don’t have many resources to spend on stuff.

What consulting firms are having layoffs?

I joined a tech company and we had about 15% layoffs including my boss. I plan to go to the head of the group to have an action plan. I have a few items that I want to finish and then work with them to setup my own career plan. Any advice on how to go about this conversation

My SM was saying it wouldn’t be a good time to be on the bench in case they decide to make layoffs… I just joined this year but imagine more science would go into the decision then just whoever isn’t on a project

My company laid off a bunch of people yesterday and a few of my friends got affected. I have so little motivation to work today but I have a client meeting tomorrow :(

I got fired 1 week before my official contract ends. Is it wrong to inform an employer about future plans and share a month before that you are leaving the company? I am shocked because I am an A performer and I had a good relationship with my boss. Any thoughts? I do realize the end of the year is slow for the company and they want to save money. But 1 week of my paycheck is not going to make a big difference. I am taking it too personal and it hurts a lot.

Has anyone been fired/had to fire someone in consulting and what were the reasons?

is a bad time to change jobs? with the economy uncertainty? If we start a new job, wouldn't we be chosen first to get laid off if they need to let people go

We are currently pregnant and at 20 weeks. My husbands was about to tell his manager about the pregnancy and paternity leave plans but then started to hear some layoff rumors which now seems inevitable. His project also did’t get extended (totally unexpected) and his team is getting released at the current client. Now he is unsure of if and when he should let his manager know. He does not want it to backfire on him. Suggestions?

Can someone help me understand why companies are doing layoffs right before the holidays? Seems to be the most inhumane time to do it?

Hot take, As consultants, we should not be startled and surprised if we are impacted by layoffs. If we are ready to dish it (with suggestions of delayering at times) then we should be able to take it.

I just found out I was promoted… in October. In November, my project ended and I was told I’d be fired if the client didn’t have another role for me. Am I crazy or is flip-flopping like this kind of ridiculous?

How do I explain to my manager that I have no clue what is going on and overall don’t feel like I’m doing a good job? I have raised to him a few times that I don’t feel comfortable in the job and feel like I’m not performing, but he always brushes away and says I’m doing fine. How do I make him pressure test me to check where I stand in case I fail in the future, without potentially being fired in the process? 4 months post-MBA hire if that matters, with another 2 months left on the case.

Got laid off recently, and just got an offer to join another firm. Great, except the comp being offered is less than my last one. It’s making it hard to swallow. I’ve negotiated but they haven’t budged much.
I’ve been talking to another company too, but they won’t be ready to make any hires until January/February, so feeling like I got no choice.

For those who got terminated for performance and received severance package, are we entitled to unemployment benefits? EDD states that it will conduct an phone interview to determine that there was no misconduct.

IL unemployment benefits: the state scheduled a call with me to determine my eligibility for benefits. Per the State, Because Accenture tagged me as “discharged” vs “laid-off”, I may not be eligible for benefits.

1) How do I handle the interview? 2) Should I admit that I received a severance package?

What do you do when you receive a verbal confirmation of an offer but then the recruiters you were working with got laid off? Also don’t have the contacts of the other interviewers lol
