I personally feel that I am more of a slower worker than my other peers at WIPFLI. I take my time when I work through my assignments. Recently I have had a conversation from a Partner and separate conversation with a Sr. Manager who is my performance coach. They both say it takes what it takes to complete a job. But both are asking questions about my over budget. What do I do? I’m scared that I will get fired, honestly. I just try to do my best. I’m thinking of having a chat with them.

Has anyone here everyone stood up for themselves or someone else on a internal call with their director/partner? Like if they were bullying someone? Curious to see what happened after or if that is something that can get you fired. Is it normal to be threatened to be fired after making mistakes that you had no idea were mistakes in the first place?
I’m a junior litigation associate at a small firm, and the managing partner says things like “you aren’t providing value to the firm” or “you’re being paid to avoid mistakes like these” when I make mistakes due to, what I believe, to be a lack of guidance and instruction. As in, they could be easily avoided with a “please keep in mind X” or something like that. Thoughts?

Would you choose an investment job at a private, partner-owned long only fund where you’re guaranteed to never lose your job& can be a multimillionaire; or at a very top L/S HF where the bottom performers are fired each year, but you could make multimillions in a good year?

Had the partner in charge of the tax group I was previously in at a B4 firm email me encouraging me to apply for an opening with them (basically same role I was in before, but at a SM level).

The catch is, I was part of their COVID RIF layoffs in summer 2020, and don’t think I’ll forget that anytime soon. Do I just respond that I’m not interested, or do I politely make it clear I have zero interest in ever returning to the firm?

Horrible anxiety about considering a new job....
I was one of the big firm stealth layoffs in covid and joined a boutique firm in Sept. They came sort of close to matching my salary but I moved to SoCal and have an opportunity to jump back in to big law and get $100k raise. The people at the small firm are so nice, but hours are nuts and if I’m going to work this much, I might as well get paid more, right? Is it too soon? How do you tell them when the managing partner took you under his wing?

Have an Audit partner who mentors me telling me Audit is better if you intend to stay long term: easier and more clear path to make partner, audits are recurring revenue, more diverse exit opps, FDD takes audit people but not vice versa, layoffs more likely in recession. An agency I contacted a year ago, after I was laid off in the pandemic, finally gets in touch with a team opening on a very tough account. If I waited around that long for them I’d have defaulted on my mortgage, lost my work visa and been kicked out of the country by now. I’ve been freelancing on way more interesting stuff but decide to do the interview and find out more. The first question the CCO asks me and my partner, “So why do you want this job?” 🙄

My department went through a reorganization; my unit was dissolved but I was offered a role in a new unit that I used to work with as a partner. Their work had always seemed interesting and I was happy to join. Unfortunately it seems they just needed some one to figure out how to manage grunt work being done by the people they fired. While they promised me growth and learning, it’s hard to find time and opportunity given hefty time commitment and tediousness of the job. Is this common in reorgs?

I was let go from my position yesterday. The managing partner, who did the letting go, said it as because of poor development and bad work product. Yet, only in December, I got a solid raise and excellent bonus for my size firm. Between then, the partner had made unsupported claims of bad work (e.g., claimed I used the wrong code in a letter bc it wasn’t the one he told me to use but the one the documents supported). I was so excited to finally not feel so much financial pressure as his unemployment is stalled, but I just feel terrible, like this will never end and start to impact our relationship because he can’t pull his weight with the bills. So, a spot I made (concept to completion) got shelved due to COVID forcing the client’s marketing plan to change. During that time, my partner and I were laid off. I screwed up something so badly on my first case - essentially leading to my CTL sending the client “draft” slides with wrong info on a bunch of things (though now they’re correct) - and, while my CTL seems okay with it and my manager understanding, I’m legitimately worried it’ll make it’s way to a Partner and thy’ll get me fired after just my first month. I was laid off in June and just got a job offer that I am excited about. However, my partner and I are also in discussions about moving. The job would be remote for at least another 5+ months so it wouldn’t be an issue now, but eventually people will be back in the office in some hybrid plan.

Is it better to float the possibility of working remote long term with HR now? Or do I accept and say nothing til we’ve officially decided to move. I don’t want to lose the opportunity. What would u do?

How are y’all feeling about the no bonus no raise situation? KPMG here, not too bothered but also can’t help but compare my org with other big 4, that managed their financials way better and can afford bonuses and pay rises and no layoffs for their employees (of course partner pay is getting impacted I’m sure to save the workforce). I wonder where we went wrong, and if the lake house investment (which we will not be using for two years, was a good investment)...

Sooo we just had a town hall with the managing partner/CEO and I don't know if it was intentional, but the background was his MASSIVE, palatial country/vacation house.
