My partner is an Occupational Therapist and she was laid off in March when NYC closed schools and therefore her clinic. Initially she claimed unemployment but they moved to tele-therapy so she’s been earning an hourly rate. However she’s struggling as they are consistently not been paying her the correct amount and with no explanation. She had an employment contract to end of Aug with a 3 month notice period that they did not give to her. Could she possibly force them to pay out her contract?

Ryan had his partner call last week. If things don't change in six months, layoffs will begin. It would be much better to ask people to take a pay cut, or a few weeks off without pay. Some people may be willing to take a package as well. Don't expect it will be the sweet package you are offering to partners to retire early.

My partner and I are thinking about moving to NYC! Are there any CW jobs there right now or is it totally oversaturated from layoffs?

I’m feeling very sad. I just learned that the partner in my previous firm got fired. I considered him my mentor. He took me under his wing. He was my Don Draper and I was his Peggy Olson. I’m really bummed about this, heartbroken and worried. Nobody knows why. The ex-colleague said everything was normal, they sent him emails but bounced back. Nobody saw it coming. 😢

Fellow 🐠, recently laid off while on H1B. Married my partner who is a US Citizen. As I understand it, I have a 60 day grace period from date of termination to apply for new jobs and begin visa transfer through employer. However, going to begin AoS for marriage based GC. Do I still have to worry about the 60 day grace period? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Are layoff discussion being done by HR or Partner? Can someone share what discussion goes on during those meetings? Any chance you can push back or is it too late already?

How do you tow the fine line between sticking up for yourself and not talking back to a partner? For context, our firm has seemingly started making a paper trail for layoffs and I disagree with some of the emails that I have received. I want to respond in a way that covers my own ass. However, I don’t want to piss anyone off, especially if I have read the situation incorrectly.

Does anyone think it’s weird that my firm is bending over backwards to try to keep a first year staff from leaving the firm after she was rated a 2 this year. But now she’s trying to leave and they keep trying to push her to stay saying she can be a partner in 8-9 years and laying it all out in detail. The issue is they laid off other staff (all but her) so maybe that’s it? Find it very odd.
