What are the exit opportunities after a career in business ops at FAANG? I'm a MBB Associate and recently got an offer for a business ops associate level role at FAANG. Curious what the trajectory/opportunities are for FAANG, relative to staying in MBB for 2-3 more years.

What's the point of MBB if they also want to exit to FAANG these days?

What Level in FAANG (i.e. L4/5/6) should one target after 2 years of post MBA experience at tier 1 Mbb?

Would you leave MBB for FAANG?

25 year old with 3 YOE

Primary concerns are speed of promotion / structured career trajectory and losing the ability to get a free MBA

My younger brother has the opportunity to do Software Engineering at FAANG and consulting at MBB as a fresh grad. I told him to do SWE, but I’m afraid I’m giving him biased advise cause I’m jaded in this industry. If you were me, what would you advise him?

At what point is it too late to switch into PM from consulting? I get people do it all the time, but how often is a 33 yr individual at MBB or Big 4 getting a PM offer at FAANG (that’s willing to put in the work)?

Do you all respect the work and capabilities of a FAANG employee or do you just want to work there? Like would MBB see any value in hiring someone who just has FAANg exp?

Any specific resume template I should use for a FAANG role or is the standard MBB one fine?

I want to start applying to roles at big 4, MBB, FAANG and need to make sure my resume is 100000%!!

Can anyone help me with this? I’ll also take recommendations on resume writing services y’all have used in the past

FAANG next steps: startup, MBB, vs MB

Currently FAANG with 6 YOE after Ivy undergrad. Good TC/WLB but craving more intellectually stimulating teammates and bigger projects. Target role is strategy at startup leading OKR planning, white space analysis, etc. Currently have little experience with these and don’t feel competitive in following skills: structured thinking, influence, and persuasion. Currently a director at EYP in the TSE group (working mainly on PMO projects). I’m thinking about moving to MBB for better exit opportunities in a few years, such as startups, FAANG, PE. On the other hand, I can potentially get promoted to SD in 2 years. Any thoughts?

A quick note about what I’ve experienced, in my decade long career, is the real advantage of MBB or FAANG - it gives you a shot at stretch roles that are outside your expertise. Not all the time or even most of the time compared to better candidates with specific experience for the role but gives you this wildcard shot at a vast array of opportunities.

Got a MBB offer as a lateral. End goal is FAANG. Friends at MBB say placements out of their firms into FAANG is as rare as anywhere else. Truth to that statement? Don’t think it’s worth the reset if it’s still nearly impossible either way…TIA

For more senior MBB folk (SM/EM/PL+) who exit to (non-technical) FAANG roles, do you need to be in the tech practice or does it not matter?

I have 7 YOE -> 4 YOE MBB, 1.5 YOE PE, 1.5 YOE PE value creation (same UMM PE firm)

Would I be an attractive candidate for FAANG strategy roles? What total comp could I expect?

Why do people want to go into consulting? Seems like a lot of people want to get into MBB, but I don't understand why. I'm a current SWE at a small biotech company 1 years out from graduation making 240k total comp. I also got return offers from FAANG after graduation for 180 TC, 120 base, that I turned down.

Even at McKinsey, base seems to only be ~90k, and most people I know in consulting work 40-50 hours per week. I don't know anyone in my cohort that works more than 25-30.

What gives?

MBB em level role vs. director level tech (non FAANG) exit? Coming from b4, roughly 10 yoe. I know it’s probably a personal preference thing but hoping to get opinions here. Tech role is $190k base plus a 30% target bonus. MBB role i got a verbal offer without a comp figure yet but my understanding is it’s around there, maybe 10-20% higher (or maybe much higher depending on bonus).

Didn’t fully expect to get the MBB offer honestly, but both beat my 180/198 b4 comp. Now i’m torn.

FAANG Exit to MBB?
3.5 YOE, Non-technical, 150k TC

Been at Alphabet my entire career post-undergrad. Undergrad was a pretty general liberal arts degree and haven’t pursued grad school yet.

What would it look like (from a TC + long term career standpoint) to switch over to consulting for a year or two then go back to my non-tech tech lifestyle?

If I want to exit to tech after MBB, should I try to get staffed on as many TMT projects as possible during my time? Ex. If I want to exit to Product Mgmt at a FAANG, should I try to get staffed on only TMT projects, or can I branch out and still be okay?

Topped my undergrad cohort, worked (FT, Intern) in both MBB and FAANG, active leadership in community/extracurriculars - But zero responses from my >10+ Google Applications (none referred, all non-tech). What am I missing?

For context, 1YOE+ and I have seen similar YOE or lesser get in.

Will an MIS degree help for PM exits? Starting at MBB soon and I’m curious if the MIS major will give me any extra looks for FAANG and other Big Tech.

1. What’s the typical TC bump MBB consultants are able to get when moving to FAANG StratOps / BizOps roles?

2. Does the base comp increase, remain constant, or decrease?

How many of you work with at least 90% focus 12 hours daily like you do for finals back in undergrad?

The SMs and Partners I've worked with appear to be fully invested in work all day. Do you increase your stamina to give 100% the higher up you go to CxO levels or MBB/FAANG, and people do not progress in career because of slacking?

There aren't many places I can speak openly about this, but Fishbowl has been a solid refuge and resource. After ~6 months of interviewing, managed to exit MBB. Moving to Europe for a strategy and ops role at FAANG. Hopefully the new role will be more enjoyable and sustainable. Sharing this here because I used to see posts like this and never thought it could happen for me - but it did. It gets better, folks. Just keep swimming.
