What is the best way to learn about different roles in FAANG?

I was a MBB consultant in India. I am in the US now with a AI products company.

I work well on the intersection of technology and business. I have conceptualised and deployed multiple enterprise products over the last 2 years.

I am looking to move to a bigger organization now. However I don't want to get into corporate strategy roles.

What are some other roles that could be a good fit for me?

People who’ve left MBB/consulting for FAANG: Is it everything you thought it would be? Better or worse how?

What is the difference in WLB between a Product Manager or Strategy Role at FAANG and a post-MBA role in MBB? I don’t see myself do an MBA and then coming back to the usual 60-70 hours a week

MBB folks on H1-B who recently switched to FAANG - did you run into any issues with visa transfer? My transfer has been filed and I’m a bit nervous about USCIS’ perception of consultants and the current sentiment around H1-B visas.

Serious question: do I *need* MBB on my resume to have good exit ops from consulting? I have an M7 MBA, but struggled to land interviews because I didn’t have big brands on my resume (confirmed by recruiters). I wouldn’t be surprised if most/all F100 and FAANG hired MBB only.

2. I am interested in FAANG but don't have matching roles. I am SAP functional manager not SAP BASIS for AWS/GCP solution arch roles. Any specific roles people from consulting can target on FAANG and Level?

Which non-SWE roles are worth it at FAANG in terms of pay? Will any pay better than MBB?

Just got another rejection... Is exiting to FAANG or MB really this hard? Trying to go tech.. or mbb, but not getting anywhere. I have 2 masters (mba, ms) from top schools, been in consulting for over 10 years, I am confident that I know my stuff well..but still I keep getting rejected. Interviewed with Google, Amazon, Cisco, McKinsey, and a few others and every-time there is something that is not a match... are the hiring managers looking for like 100% match? That will never happen!!!

How do schools feel about you jumping from a management consulting firm to startup if that startup fails badly after you join? I’m sure you could spin it as a learning experience but will that really work when you’re being compared against people from MBB/PE/FAANG?

I don’t have a preference for FAANG or MBB. But are there any characteristics or traits that help one over the other? E.g PM in FAANG vs Mgr in MBB roles. Just a thought, no need to be harsh :)

I am in the job market and built a list of target companies. It’s mainly b4, FAANG, MBB and other tier 2 consulting companies. Due to lack of responses so far, I am expanding my search into other tech companies, and want to find out which are the other companies that provides stock options as part of total comp. How can I built a list of such companies?

People who have made it to the perceived “top/best” place in their career field/education (MBB, FAANG, top PE fund, HSW, etc): do you feel satisfied? Have you had to recalibrate your goals? If so, what are those goals?

Which firms after MBB send most folks to FAANG in PM roles?

Is it expected that people who exit from MBB/Deloitte at post mba levels (PL/EM/M) take paycuts when going to industry? (non FAANG, PE). I'm In process at multiple internal consulting/strategy groups who say the paycut is part of the trade-off for less hours/no travel.

But as a female🐠, I can't discern whether this is just a negotiation tactic. Mentors have told me never take less pay.

What’s best path for an MBA application? Currently at Deloitte, will stay until 1-2 YOE and then exit to one of the following potential paths:

1. Stay at Deloitte until applying
2. Switch to MBB and then apply
3. Switch to FAANG and then apply
4. Switch to a “T2” tech firm and then apply
5. Quit and join/create a startup and then apply

Every time I interview with FAANG or MBB I’m just reminded how dumb I am and why these companies pay so much to people who pass the bar! PS: Should I quit at rejection 5 or go for 10

MBB vs. FAANG pros and cons? My main priorities (in no particular order):

1. Compensation
2. Career Advancement/Upward Mobility
3. WLB
4. Ability to work on projects that interest me (and/or internal mobility to leave bad projects)
5. Exit Opportunities

If you’re frustrated about 💰 and career, maybe from FAANG/MBB/PE TC posts, just remember that 99% of life is still pretty much the same for everyone. You eat at the same restaurants, poop on the same toilets, live in similar neighborhoods, wear the same Patagonias, fly in the same metal cans ✈️, and maybe even drive similar cars whether your TC is 100k, 200k or 400k. There’s no use in earning tons more money than you actually need, and the “rich” life is still far away for those earning $1M

Stop being so obsessed with only FAANG for Tech. It's like being obsessed with only MBB for consulting and thinking everything else isn't real consulting😉.

Wharton EMBA worth it? Late career starter so limited white collar experience but interesting background/past life. Also have kids to support so can’t do a full time program. Want the MBA for career boost ($), as an entry to faang/MBB and to have more security for future opportunities. Worth it? Does the EMBA have the same faang/MBB recruitment access and weight as full time?
