KPMG’ers - am I right in interpreting the parental leave policy as one can joint the company pregnant, and gain access to full parental benefits, as long as you work for 3 months prior to giving birth??

Is anyone concerned the push for sexual equality in pay without accordant leveling of parental leave is gonna backfire?

Here’s a hypothetical:

A company has 2 candidates, aged 25-30, equal in every respect save one’s a man the other’s a woman. Maybe the woman is a slightly better candidate overall. They’d have equal comp.

Company considers the woman a riskier bet due to possibility she’ll take maternity leave — and considers the man less risky for his ineligibility to take as much leave. 🤷

Anyone know if Arnold & Porter requires you to be at the firm for one year to take parental leave? Or Cooley?

Curious if anyone is willing to share a great parental leave policy that they implemented or currently utilize.

DLA Piper: I’m very interested in lateraling here but I’m about to go on parental leave until March. I had a recruiter reach out and I’m trying to decide whether to throw my hat in now or wait until after leave. Does anyone have any insight into their litigation needs? It seems like they’re recruiting across the board for litigators, so I’m afraid they might not be looking to hire more next year.

If you lateral to a new firm following a parental leave, has anyone asked for/ negotiated pay based on your class year even though you took 4-8 months off for parental leave? Or is it risky to do so? I am guessing the new firm might be able to put two and two together if you say you have kids, but looking to hear your exp.

Question for career/long-term clerks. Do your courts have parental leave policies? Mine doesn’t have a policy. Curious what others have or don’t have. This is not including FMLA. I mean something separate from that.

I’m on parental leave, going to lateral - leave ends end of November and want to start at Hes firm beginning of December. When do I give notice to current firm? I don’t want them to tell me to leave immediately and not get my whole leave.

EY- 16 weeks of 100% paid leave with the ability to utilize three additional weeks of PTO

Curious about others' experience with parental leave. HR knows I'm on leave/they processed everything, which has resulted in me being unable to bill any time whatsoever in our time keeping system. Nevertheless, even while on leave, I keep receiving work-related questions and assignments, despite having wrapped up everything time sensitive before I went out.

Any thoughts on how to handle/set boundaries? I wouldn't be so bothered if I weren't effectively blocked from entering time.

Has anyone gone or attempted to go back to a previous company/team/role after some time away? I spent nearly 4 years at a company/team that I loved but left almost 3 years ago for a higher paying external opportunity after our first child was born. I’ve regretted the move immensely and no longer feel fulfilled on the path that I’m going down, so I am now thinking about boomeranging back after my Parental Leave is over next summer. Any advice on how to navigate?

For those in the public or state sector, what are your monthly premiums and other benefits? I am hoping to make a job change but for the past 7 years it’s been hard because my city pays well and has great benefits (I know poor me), but I am craving growth which I do not have here. I’m trying to get an idea of what it would be like financially to make a move (I realize this will vary widely). We’re done having kids so parental leave and other related benefits aren’t as much interest. Thank you!

UK Corporate lawyer here. In my appraisal I was told I am not performing to 3PQE.
I joined from a client, following in-house training. I then moved at the beginning of the pandemic and my offer was pushed 6 months (where I wasn’t working). I then joined on the condition that I did real estate for 6 months.
I have also spent 4 months on parental leave, so I have only spent 16 months in the team. I am paid the same as an NQ. This all feels very unfair. Please share any advice you may have.

Would you expect a prospective new employer to honor parental leave not yet taken? Thinking of switching but I haven’t used up all my leave (though I know when I need/want) to take it. For reference, it would be about 8 weeks continuous in around 6 months time

Does anyone know where I can find decent and objective parental leave policy benchmarking data? I know the Skimm keeps a list where companies can self report. I'm hoping for something more objective. Not sure if there's anything out there but any intel would be appreciated.

Significant other’s parental leave was cut from 20 weeks (I know, incredibly generous) to 4 effective immediately. We are due in 8 weeks. Anything that can be done? His handbook does state “can be changed at anytime, etc etc”

Is a daily 1.5 hour commute (total) worth a more supportive work environment and better benefits?
Thinking of jumping ship after just 6 months in a fully remote position for an in-house, in person job where expectation is 5d/week in person. Commute would be around 90minutes/day in interstate. Better salary, good 401k match, parental leave (20 weeks paid), 4wks PTO, and a very big name for the resume. 3 YOE. But I love the flexibility of remote work, so struggling to decide.

Anyone interviewed recently for a PM position at Adobe or just works there? I had the 2nd round and I know the next will involve me presenting a business case to a panel of 5.

1. Any idea of what the business case can be?
2. What is their general outlook on parental leave? In the 2nd round I basically told them that I am pregnant and willgo on mat leave in March. I wonder if I will be dismissed just because of this or I still have a chance...

REALLY feel dumb asking this, BUT.. Our company offers 16 paid weeks parental leave. Do we include that in the total time or in addition to the state's family leave? I am second guessing my answer and need a pulse check.

What is the right time to disclose a pregnancy?
Looking for roles that are typically not redundant, strategic, and critical to day to day operations, when would you expect an applicant to disclose a pregnancy, esp if they are due within ~3 months of being hired? I get a fear of being disqualified due to the potential of losing the new hire to maternity/parental leave for 2+ mos following delivery, but it seems disrespectful to withhold the information until after hired. How would you handle it?
