Question on two week notice. I have two weeks of pto I will be taking, and then immediately after have my Big 4 in person senior associate trainings. I am going to put in my notice, but is there any way to put it so I can stay with the firm to go to trainings? If I put in notice while on parental leave, that would cover the period until the first day after training, will they likely just let me go on the spot? I would like to have the in person CPE credits for my CPA renewal next year.

So my wife is due at the end of July, and I just found out my parental leave policy allows for 6 weeks of leave taken within the first year. My original plan was taking all 6 weeks at once for the most bonding/support. But know I’m wondering if I should break up my leave a little more. (For context, I do have unlimited PTO for things that come up like baby being sick, so I don’t need to save any leave for things like that). Curious on what other people with similar policies have done?

I’m 6 months pregnant and scheduled a 30 minute meeting to chat with my HR rep to talk about our parental leave benefits (specifically how to navigate taking additional, unpaid time)…. She declined the meeting and directed me to review the policy documentation online and email her with any specific questions I have. Is that normal? Feeling a bit unsupported but also not trying to overreact

Dads, how much parental leave did you take vs available? Lateraled in January and baby is due December. Firm offers 9 weeks for non primary caregiver for reference. I'd be inclined to "take it all" but a bit nervous about missing a ton of time with increasing economic uncertainty.

I got 20 weeks fully paid leave (4 more weeks than my current firm), a clear path to parenthood (flexible schedule) and desired comp package. How do firms calculate how much parental leave to provide, either paid or unpaid. Or do they just pick a number, like “yeah they can get to know their kid in a few weeks and I couldn’t possibly have that attorney out for 12 weeks?” I’m at a small firm, no FMLA or state requirement. We get four weeks paid and four weeks unpaid. Would like to push for more but not sure how to argue costs side of it.

What is your firms parental leave policy? Primary care giver time vs secondary? Staff vs attorneys? Is there ramp up and ramp down time? Bonus if you have a link to the source. Compiling research on firm leave policies.

I recently got asked in an interview “how do you keep on top of employment law, your award and fair work regulations?” Truth is I’m subscribed to mailing lists but that’s about it… I sometimes feel dumb because I forget what’s in the fair work act, I need to check it every time someone is going on parental leave… then I forget the min requirements again.
Does anyone else have the same problem? How do you keep on top of / remember important NES & regulations?

Thoughts on leaving a company right after parental leave? Would you think that burns bridges? Following the previous post. I found out I was pregnant two weeks after I signed my offer. If everything goes well, my delivery will be 7 months into my new role. When is a good time to tell my boss? Thanks! I already know that because it would be less than a year when I deliver, I won’t qualify for the additional 6 weeks of parental leave.

My company is trying to come up with a new policy for maternity and paternity leave. Right now we only have six weeks unpaid. couple ideas were thrown out there like two weeks paid or maybe a year with intermittent leave. What are your guys thoughts on paid parental leave?

Joining a new company soon. My new company gives only 10 weeks of maternity leave. Since it won’t be a year yet if I can make it to labor, I won’t have the additional weeks of parental leave. I am in CO. Are there any labor laws that give me additional time off? Thanks!

Should you ask about benefits, PTO, parental leave, etc. after you get an offer or during interviews? I don’t want my questions to seem to imply I’m looking “too much” into the ancillaries before even getting an offer.

Do you need to be at Deloitte for over a year before using the parental leave? Can you use the full 16 weeks and/or can you break it up how you want? Any repercussions such as performance or bonus affected? Ideally I’d like to break it and use it at different times of the year. Joining the firm soon and having a child later this year (father btw).

Misled on Maternity Leave Policy. I found out I only get 4 weeks pay for maternity leave (STD +“sick days”). I will take 12 weeks but wont get paid for 8 weeks. I work for a US, west coast based company in the tech/VC industry. Their website claims to offer “paid parental leave and other progressive benefits for parents”. I didn’t find out until after I was hired their pay was only 8 weeks but since I have been at the company less than 12 months, I don’t qualify for their policy. Is this unfair?

Going to a competitor. I told my PML about 2 weeks ago and have been on a parental leave and will officially put in notice when i return from LOA. PML is saying i need to put in notice now since i accepted offer from competitor and they will shut me down ASAP and that i shouldn’t have taken my leave. Is this really an HR thing or my PML bullsh*tting me out of spite?

I have been offered a position in-house at a $500M-$1B company, mid-sized city LCOL, 10 YOE in private practice. They offered me $120k, w opp for undefined discretionary bonus. No paid parental leave or 401(k) match & only 1 week PTO in first year (but claim they have discretion for more). Is there any way to salvage this? Salary guides suggest TC should be around $200-215k. I want to get my foot in the door but this seems crazy low.

Has anyone put together gifts for new fathers at their company? We've had a couple of recent first time mother's but have a first time father coming up. I'm assuming most of the items can be the same as they were focused more on the baby or like door dash gift cards, but is there anything father specific i should include before he starts his parental leave?

So incredibly frustrated with my company’s maternity policy. 0 parental leave and 6 weeks at 60%. I was told when I joined parental leave was changing for the better to be tech driven, and now pregnant I’m told that leadership changed their mind. Love coming back from parental leave to discover my leadership wants to replace me with my backfill and would like me to find a new work stream for myself or leave the project. Very cool.

About to take parental leave and there is a very high chance I will not come back. And it feels really good. That is all.
