Guys, when applying to internal positions in different departments through the internal job portal
1. Do we need to inform our current manager?
2. Is it weird if i reach out to the hiring manager informally on Skype and ask for a 10 min call to get more info on the role and his expectations before i apply?

How bridge-burny is it to send my resignation via email? I'm remote and my new-ish manager couldn't care less about me, which is why I'm leaving. The team is changing and I think he wants me gone. I dread talking to him, and I don't feel like I owe him anything, because he's shown me zero interest and zero respect. I don't think he's the type to be petty via bad reference. My email will be perfectly polite and gracious. I just can't stomach his phony bloviating over Zoom.

Linked the wrong spreadsheet to my boss in Slack and got a talk about how if “we don’t do our best work, our jobs are on the line as the recession looms.” Is this overkill or am I overreacting?

Have a few questions regarding IBM Joining, HR response is strangely lacking and so does in the slack(prejoin channels). Hoping can be cleared here..
a) I've been told virtual onboarding is no longer a thing.
How many days does in-person onboarding activities occur?
b) HR Informed,"After onboarding is complete, can get perm WFH based on project or extension of WFH as IBM is flexible"
Is this true? Can managers extend/grant remote for a month then let us transit to remote model?

Any funny stories during Teams/Zoom calls you've experienced? I go first: a client during a call started to loudly pe e and then flushed afterwards. There was a brief, awkward silence, and then all of us started to laugh out loud. No big deal. Things happen.

I took a job where I start remote and relocate later. Now I’ve started, most of the people I work with wouldn’t even be in the same office as me so I’d be relocating to a new city just to sit at home on zoom calls 90% of the time.
I’m just wondering if there is a way to bring up a convo with leadership to adjust previous plans. I’m thinking of maybe asking if I could just spend part time in the new city and stay maybe 1-2 weeks a month here or something. Would love thoughts

I lead a small team (~8 people) that is geographically dispersed. We are looking to do a fun virtual team event, as there is no budget for travel. Any ideas on what we can do that is not a Zoom team lunch?

Anybody work on a small team where you are the only diverse member? I have always worked in places where by chance the group was diverse. I just started this job and didn’t think this would bother me because everyone seemed nice. But frankly don’t understand the jokes or the stuff they want to talk about. When are you overstepping in a work environment and when are you not? What about micromanaging? How do you tell the difference?

For example, a calendar invite was created by a Product Owner but I saw that one of our designers that should be included is missing from the invite, so I tagged her on slack to see if she needs the invite forwarded or not and wanted to make sure she's included.

We're both Design Leads, no reports. I just joined 2mths ago.

Did I micromanage? Or overstep?

I get why people like WFH. Not missing my old commute. But I’m pretty tired of staring at my big fat stupid face all day every day on zoom / teams calls.
