I have a San Francisco company who IPOd in 2020 offer me a job last week as a “Developer Advocate”. But this hiring process is so damn weird…! And now idk if I want the job?? It’s also a job title I don’t really want— I’d prefer to be an “iOS developer”, “machine learning engineer”, or “software developer/engineer” I accepted the job cause I am SO poor right now. Now they’re saying they want to send me $8k of computer equipment…. But they haven’t confirmed my boss or my pay yet!!?

My career here is pretty stable and money is good enough without killing myself (500k+ cash) but I miss being an investor vs an advisor. Is there any path back to GE/PE at this stage? My gut says no unless it's a firm where I have a client relationship and I get lucky but hard to broach the subject given dynamics. Any advice?

Senior audit associate here… I am looking for help in ideas to motivate the staff to perform better. Most of our staff appear to be treating their work as a mindless job and not a career. Most of them don’t appear to want to put into the effort to truly understand what they are working on and try to get better. This ends up in continued poor performance and the majority of work falling on the seniors/managers. Hoping to find some ideas from others to help turn this around! Thanks.

Is it just me or are there entirely too many people in Business Services, specifically TC’s, who are just folks from client service that don’t want to deal with hours and travel anymore but have no formal training in the Business Services function they transition to? It seems to me very few TC’s are professionals in HR with any background, training or certifications in HR.
