Any POC attorneys who feel they are held to higher standards than their non-minority peers? How have you navigated that and not let it get you down that you have to work harder to be taken seriously?
Anyone else really over seeing these JDs fussing about the online bar exam? I mean, it's delayed (extra time is extra time...the rest of us had until the end of July), plus it's online. I remember the pure fear I had walking into the testing location. At least there is some solace in knowing you're in your own space. Thoughts?
As a new associate, just having graduated and taken the bar, what expectations do you have for the work you will handle in a transactional practice you are joining... In the first few days, first few months and the end of your first year?
Thoughts on getting a prenup for a first marriage? As background, my parents are both lawyers and basically everyone in my family is divorced so I have a warped view and would consider getting one. However, my SO is a non-lawyer and is against them.
How do you communicate with employees who don't want to wear masks? Unbelievable to me people still have issues grasping this need.
New attorney here - Passed the Feb bar exam and started working at a small firm in March. Boss is great, staff is great, I just feel like I know literally nothing about how to actually practice law. The paralegals know more than I do. I can barely write a complaint, and I don’t even know how to file. Any advice on gaining confidence when just starting out? P.S. My boss (the only other attorney) isn’t available to answer my dumb questions 8-5. I can only catch him after hours.
I’ve seen podcasts on successful practice, legal tech, leaving law for other careers, other timely topics, but none dedicated to authentic convos re how hard it is to be human in this field...(cont’d)
Hey. For people who’ve moved laterally, how did you deal with the request for references from your current employer?
Anybody have any experience taking the Georgia Attorney’s Exam? I’m sitting for it in February and wanted to hear others’ experiences with studying and sitting for it
With regards to bonuses, at 2100 hours/yr, the firm I have an offer with offers bonuses 2x yearly. Does this mean going above and beyond, or hitting target hours as it sounded? I’d assume above/Beyond
Question: can an employer legally withhold your personal possessions after you leave the firm? I left my old firm recently and they were not happy about me joining another consultancy. They are withholding any belongings that I left in the office and have ignored my emails asking to arrange a pick up or delivery of my personal items. I understand the covid19 environment impacts the situation, but anything I can do to get my stuff back? Any help would be appreciated. I’m based in NYC!
I’m getting ready for my first review: what kind of raise did you get after your first year? My firm doesn’t have a lock-step increase, so I don’t know what to expect or what to ask for.
Salary for an NYC-based product/UI designer with 3+ years of experience? Helping a small startup with hiring and trying to narrow in on a range. Thanks fishies! 🐟🐠🐡
Dallas folks - going from DFW to downtown next week arriving 6pm Hotel suggested DART over Taxi/Uber but I’m skeptical (costs less but showing 50% longer Travel time). Any local insights?
Anyone with insights into senior level compensation at Deloitte or BCG? Just looking for a quick yay/nay if I can get close to matching about $1.1M annually in a leadership role (not senior LT but more CEO -2)
Anyone attempted to mine using a laptop? I have an i7 8th gen, 16gb ram and intel UHD 620. Will my system hold up?
I interviewed for a job on Friday - post-interview, I’m 100% sure it isn’t a right fit. Even if offered, I will not take it. The company sounds amazing though, so I don’t want to burn any bridges. I’m struggling with how to write a think you email to my interviewers that’s doesn’t involve making the case that I’m the best candidate for the job. Any recommendations?
How much more $$$ do you make a week travelling. My guess is $200 in points, $200 in food savings and $50 or so because of hotel gym.
I’ve received two different texts from “recruiters” who want me to do a virtual interview over Skype or Hangout. Both called me out by name. Is this a scam?
I’m up for promotion to manager in a couple months and not looking forward to it. Seems like it’s a lot of process management, pushing back every direction and very isolating (contd)
Recruiter emailed me to ask for salary requirements and current salary before requesting a phone screen. What's the best thing thing to say? I know this is to weed people out but don't want to low ball
I’ve realized that I don’t know how dominate to be in relationships. Mostly I’ve had guys blame my travel schedule. Whenever I got a work win, it seemed to affect the power dynamic of the relationship & they wanted me more submissive. The relationship becomes an exhausting power struggle & I run from all the control issues. Weird pattern, but I’ve become a stronger personality because of it. However, now I feel like I can’t make my partner feel needed. How do others balance this dynamic?
