I was hired by client to draft a form MSA and SOW (the client is a freelance HR coach). She showed her form to another freelance HR coach and now they want to use the form I made for my client and my clients asking if that’s ok? Any advice?
How would you answer a “Why X law firm over other magic circle law firms?” question in an interview?
Finding it hard to continue as an attorney after 10 years as a very happy litigator doing insurance defense work including trials. Courts have been closed for over a year (I practice in NYC) and it does not look like I’ll ever have the lifestyle I once had and loved, going to court and depositions every day. Billable hours seem impossible without court and life has just gotten so gravely boring. Anyone else feeling lost? I’ve spent the entire last year trying to figure out where to go from here
Would you ask for a higher pay at a startup, due to the company not having a pension scheme for its employees?
Do any AmLaw 200 firms offer fee splitting for associates? As a senior associate, I originate more than my salary and I know that many others with the same title in my firm originate little/nothing. Yet we are all paid about the same base and our bonuses are underwhelming. Sounds like a rant but am just curious.
To those who have several years of experience ion TA: Do you think staying in the campus recruiting space limits you? Should one try to get exposure to other HR areas for the long run?
Leaving mid-law to go solo. Restrictions/bewares on soliciting my own clients (who may have ties to other attorneys in the firm outside my practice area)?
Took my first deposition today and it went great! I attribute some of that to the tips I got from here - I searched the group and saw some really good suggestions and things to keep in mind, and it really helped me! I’m a first year so I was really worried about it but happy to have found it to not be nearly as stressful as I expected.
What does your work schedule look like (roughly) if you are aiming for 1900 billable hours?
If you're negotiating a start date with a new firm and you need to give your current firm 2 weeks and want some time to yourself before starting, but you already have a vacation planned in the early fall, is it an issue to take 2-3 weeks before starting as long as you're clear that you have a pre-planned trip?
Any tips on how best to draft an email asking for work from a partner who I haven’t worked with and who doesn’t know me? I’d like to get on their matters and want to craft an email that would actually get them to respond and be interested in giving me the work (as opposed to just acknowledging my interest and forgetting about it the next day).
Hi there! I need some guidance. HR and global leadership rolled out some amazing new initiatives like not starting until 10 am on Mondays, no meeting Fridays and required 2 additional summer days a month. The problem is, my boss refuses to comply with the initiatives. He constantly scheduled meetings before 8 am on Mondays and after 7 pm on Fridays. He also doesn’t let me take time off. Should I go to HR? I’m really not one to complain but I’m tired and extremely burnt out. Thanks for your help!
I know this isn’t a job board but what the heck...anyone’s firm hiring remote securities attorneys? Older second year associate with 5 years of pre- law school and 5 years post-law school prior relevant experience. Most recently 1.5 years of traditional cap markets/securities law experience.
Guys. I have an impulse purchase problem... (FYI I'm kidding. I have a small flock and am replacing a hen who died from being egg bound.)
My stress level is bad due to working for incompetent people. One partner would send me work with garbage instructions or for things that are completely out of my expertise, and when I ask for guidance they turn around and ask another attorney to explain to me. What the heck - why would you give me work if you don’t even know how to do the work or what you’re looking for? How do these people make partners?
Is reading through Fishbowl billable time?
I graduated from law school in 2007, went to big law and was laid off in 2009 due to the Great Recession. I went back to school and got my LLM in tax, after a stint at big 4, I got back into big law but was asked to start over as a first year. Years later, close to partnership and being mentored in that direction, I lost my job due to something completely out of my control that I can’t get into. I always wanted to make partner, but I’m struggling at my new firm with not enough work (p. 1)
I'm so sure I'm not in a job I enjoy.. I feel pressurized and so tensed and have that constant thought of office and work all the time.. I've been applying for new opportunities night and day.. Fingers crossed that I may get to switch soon..
Is it true consulting firms care about your GMAT score? Talking about firms recruiting MBA summer associates of course. I managed to get into a top 10 b-school with low GMAT but will it haunt me?

Stay in consulting for another 2 years to make Partner or entertain discussions from growing software company that is likely to go public in next 2 years. Comp is higher at software company for next 2-3 yrs probably, then equal for a bit, then Partner would be more. What additional info would you want to be able to do a true comparison?
