Anyone with insight into Goodwin and/or Freshfields corporate/M&A? Culture, hours, etc. Please feel free to PM me as well.
Some good news. I am the OP of a post earlier this week about whether law firms are saying anything about the rising tide in hate crime against Asians. https://joinfishbowl.com/post_mc2we2qtyf…
Any feedback on Freshfields in NY - specifically their litigation department? Many thanks in advance.
What’s the most petty thing you’ve seen a firm do to an attorney who is lateraling out? Mine just revoked my renewal paperwork and payment for 2021-22 bar dues, even though they’ve already submitted it I’ll still be an employee when they’re due (7/1). Money’s not the issue. They can dock the $400 from my final check for all I care. The administrative hassle is the petty part, and it’s so inconsequential that it genuinely made me chuckle. I don’t even blame them. Kinda respect the hustle tbh.
I am at the 2nd round of my interview for the Recruiter Position for a German Company in Germany. I want to ask what should I prepare for this interview and which situations could they give me to check my Recruitment knowledge? Basic questions have been asked in the first interview.
I haven’t had anything resembling a vacation since 2017, so I booked one for August. Today, I received notice that a trail is scheduled to begin two days after I return. Why? Why God why?
You’re constantly showing up for everyone else, but who’s showing up for you? I started an initiative to coach HR/people leaders because I know what it’s like to be doing all the things for everyone else with little support or focus on your own well-being, growth and development. It’s a lonely game! I’d be delighted to create the space to make you a priority. Would love to offer a free session, or simply connect: https://www.chrisrollins.me/peopleleaders.
What's the harshest thing your Buyer has ever said to you? Ex: Buyer emailed my colleague "instead of sharing photos of our empty shelves why don't you spend your time getting us more product"
What is it like to work in healthcare fraud litigation/government investigations? Type of assignments on investigation side? Hours? I’ve always been set on practicing business or real estate litigation and not sure making a switch to that practice area would be right for me.
Any thoughts on the best certifications to get in order to help move forward? I have considered the CCP from World at Work, but it’s fairly pricey to get by the time you wrap up everything. I was looking at both SHRM-CP and SPHR. Everyone that I have spoken to has the SHRM, but that’s also only looking at individuals in a small geographic footprint and within 3-4 different companies. I was hoping to get some thoughts on this from others? Thanks
Looking for feedback on Paylocity and UKG payroll HRIS. We have 250 employees and rapidly growing company.
Is it normal/fine to confirm with a partner the language in a paragraph in a document prior to sending out to a client if you are not 100% sure it is correct? I’m in capital markets and securities and often times am unsure of what to include/how to word, particularly for private offerings. The answer seems to be obvious (yes) but I am a year and a half into traditional practice with prior adjacent experience and don’t want to be seen as not confident or that I am not progressing.
When a law firm is looking for a 33/34 act attorney does it need an one working primarily with public companies? Or private companies as well? I’m a corporate and securities attorney, all my clients are private EGC and PE/ VC/ hedge funds, I usually ensure that they are exempted from 33/34 acts
What training or guidance are you giving managers at your firms about managing hybrid teams? There is a lot out there on remote teams, but a lot of us are going back three days a week which means people at home and people in the room. Any tips to pass on?
I’m a 2016 grad making $120k in a small to mid-size regional firm. I’m based in Nashville. My firm’s management is trying to survey other small to mid-size regional firms to get a feel for where the comp is now, especially in light of the big law increases that are making headlines, and to see just how far below market we may have fallen. Any additional data points from smaller regional firms (especially if you have a presence in Nashville or across the SE) would be appreciated! TIA
Advice on taking and passing the SPHR exam?
Any strategies or resources you could recommend for getting rid of the dreaded annual performance review (or at least lessening the dread) and creating a more effective year round performance feedback system? Our review is currently tied to our end of year bonuses and merit increases, so not sure I could get rid of it entirely. This would be for hourly and management employees, all working on-site.
Does anyone know of recruiting firms with a focus on Anti-money laundering? I’m foreign educated and newly admitted NY attorney with CAMS certification but living in Miami lol. I’m here, because my husband practices in SoFlo. Any recommendations? I don’t have any experience but have CAMS.
How much nonbillable time is too much? I’m a second associate at a midsized firm and I have 30-50 non billable hours each month. An associate at another firm told me this was really high. Thoughts?
I have a screening interview with HR today at JPMorgan. I'm sure I'll get the common question, "How is JPM different from other major banks, and why do you choose this one?" Suggestions????? Thx!

Does your firm continue to have a dress code for Office and client? How do you feel about it? Please provide gender indication as you comment
I’m thinking about leaving my government job for a matrimonial law firm. I had a baby in January & my husband’s job was hit particularly hard by the pandemic (100% commission based & I was already earning more than him). I am enticed by the compensation & have been unhappy with certain aspects of my govt job lately. But I’m also nervous about billables & firm life (I was a matrimonial lawyer 5+ years ago). Mostly I want to provide for my baby girl & not be stressed financially. Advice? Thoughts?
Year end meetings for most groups at KPMG tomorrow and things expected to be very tight promotion wise.
I was interviewed pre-Covid and the timing did not work out. At the time I used a third party recruiter. The firm has contacted me again directly. Should I let the recruiter know or just proceed?

To the partners/directors/senior managers: can you give examples of mistakes/lessons you learned throughout your careers? Any really big F-Ups that really made you think about staying/leaving?
How to know when to jump from a small consulting firm to a big one? Besides culture are there any down sizes for making this transition. I don’t want to burn bridges with current client and company.
All, what are some permanent remote jobs a former IT audit professional can transition to?
Do B4 recruiters even put in the effort to look at a candidate before reaching out? I have had soo many B4 recruiters reach out to me for hourly/temp work but I’m a cpa at a mid tier firm. Do B4 really look down on mid tier THAT much that they think we would rather leave mid tier for contract work at B4? 🤨
Final interview for KPMG this week, any tips on any fellow KPMG experienced hires? Anything I should be aware of? Thanks =]
How long do I wait until following up after an interview? About 24 hours after the first interview with a recruiter, they reached out about moving me through. It’s been a week after interviewing with some people on the team and I realized I never got a timeline of when to expect to hear back. Should I reach out or is this normal?
