The 3% Movement was founded in 2012 to address the ratio of female creative directors: women influence 80% of consumer spending yet at that time only 3% of creative directors were women. And even less were people of color. Their mission is to bring that number up to 50% and to bring more diversity to creativity with a unique blend of events, consulting, certification, research, community, content, and mentorship. The drumbeat they march to is: Diversity = Creativity = Profitability. Because at the end of the day, the goal as advertisers is to find the best people, to make the best work, and ultimately, the best profit. But you can’t accomplish all of that with only one demographic, race, or gender.
