1. At what age did you have your first baby? And 2. Would you have a baby a few months into a new firm as a manager?

Hell yes I would. Your job is temporary and your family is forever. Good luck OP!

Check out maternity benefits at the new firm .. sometimes you need to be there a year for full benefits

I’m fairly sure Accenture doesn’t have a one year requirement, but best to check for sure!

1: 26; 2: hell yes, my family planning isn’t anyone’s business but me and my partners! Things happen when they happen!

1. 35, 2. Yes, assuming I had full maternity benefits. There is never a convenient time to have a baby.

Thank you @ey1... how do you manage consulting with kids?

EY offers exec coaching when returning from maternity leave (I think M+, but I want to say anyone can make a business case & request it - not sure...). I took advantage of that benefit & worked with my coach to prioritize what really moves the needle for me.

I set clear & reasonable boundaries, & I relentlessly focus on work that is critical to my teams & engagements, not “urgent” work that just keeps me busy & distracted.

I’m a SM & manage my own book, so I do have a certain degree of autonomy. That said, I’m trying to think through having a 2nd baby while going up for Principal, & have realized there is no great time. Pregnancy & leave are such small snapshots in the grand scheme of a career, so I try to not let it stress me out.

What are some additional maternity benefits or perks at your firm (beyond leaves)? I have heard of Amex gift cards, firm-based support groups, free counselling, goodies (parenting books, water bottles), free pump... what else?

A parent of one of my students told admin she thinks it's irresponsible that I won't be grading over Christmas break. I let the students know to get any work they need graded in before the break and I'll get it to it during our workdays in January. Apparently that's not fast enough for her 🙄. Is it wrong that I'm sort of pissed off by this? Should I say something?

We are expecting a second child in about 15 days and my first one is 2.5 yrs old. My wife took a break after our first child and we never had a nanny. Our entire family lives outside of US. With the current situation, none of our extended family members are now able to travel and help. we are worried about hiring a nanny at this point because of covid concerns. What are my childcare options so that I can be with my wife during the labor?

My boyfriend lost his mother few months ago. It was very unexpected. How can I support him going forward ? He talks way less as he’s slowly realizing she’s gone and he’s very sad. I don’t know what to do beside being there for him and giving him space when needed. He said I’m very supportive but I’m a bit scared this will affect our relationship as a couple on the long term. Any advice is appreciated, thank you.

I want to brag on my kid, but I don’t want to embarrass him, so I’m doing it here. My college sophomore found out today that he ended up with a B in his accounting class - which is remarkable, given that he received a 50 on his first exam and a 70 on his second. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen him work this hard - and I couldn’t be more proud. The grades that come easily don’t impress me nearly as much as the ones that are hard fought.

Is it the smart move to take a pay cut and clerk for a judge?

Little context: I was an ED student, full time paralegal/clerk throughout my law school experience, and a single mother. I did not take advantage of the law school extracurriculars and missed out on clerk application deadlines my final year (2020). Would it benefit me to take a pay cut as a transactional clerk by about $20k to work as a clerk for a year then re-enter firm life? I’m transactional and enjoy that line of work.

2nd Cousin has a Mexican boyfriend of 4 months and is 3 months pregnant - did not have conversations with her mother or her sister, close cousins before going forward. She’s feeling the lash back of a mother who’s looking to influence her decision and get an abortion before she starts this life. There are definitely some red flags with the guy with his income and that he doesn’t speak English, curious what others would do - what would your parents say? Mine would flip!

Thanksgiving is upon us. Send help.

My step in laws are TERRIBLE. Not directly to me but family dynamic is stressful. They parent their youngest kid with pills and ignoring him, so that he does inappropriate things around me with zero correction (walking in on me, insulting me). They are all half siblings (4 boys 30-11) so they all don’t care including my partner. FIL also verbally abuses MIL in front of us. Yet they all want to please him constantly. It’s just bad.

Food was good though.

Looking for some encouragement everything will work out okay. This is crazily the first time we’ve had it!
