1️⃣ General q:
Do you have a preference or expectation of who you report to and their background/knowledge before accepting a job?

2️⃣ More specific if anyone can chime in:
What's the difference reporting to Head of Design vs Head of Product/Sr. product manager (no design bg, extensive business consulting exp, someone with company for 7+ yrs)?

If I were you I'd prefer to report to head of product. They will hopefully leak on your for design expertise and you'll also get to learn more cross functionally

interesting, I hadn't considered thios

Curious to see what answers you get as I have never really considered this.

I bring up these questions because I had a bad experience in a prior role when the role reported to a Product Owner on our team - his official tittle on paper was business consultant. He talked down to me and it just wasn't the right type of management.

And now I'm currently interviewing, close to offer stage that I don't want to make the same mistake again, and hope to gain more insights on what others usually expect of their managers/leaders before saying yes and committing

Curious to know your answer as well, for my own reference.

Hi All,

I need your suggestions.

I have 3.1 years of experience on SAP MM support projects. I have not done much enhancements or customized reports. I got selected PWC India as a associate role, my colleagues saying that in PWC India will have more pressure and more work load and no help from seniors . Is this true?

I have this 2 offers.
1. TCS with 8 lakhs
2. PWC India - 10 lakhs

Please advise me.

Thanks 🙏 in advance

Hello everyone!
I’m seeking advise from fishers. My brother in law is going to university next year. He was engineering (which is one of the worse decisions someone can do from my experience LOOL). I told him if anything he should do managment engineering which he got accepted to. He also got accepted to Mcmaster- information management systems. Which in my opinion you get a bit of everything! And this degree is picking up a lot of traction’s across tech. More thoughts in the comments

Anyone know anything about the corporate action / offer by SCH to buy off IPOE shares? Any context / guidance is appreciated! Hey, I'm currently a QA analyst with 5 YOE. I want to move into a QA automation role. I'm currently taking a python course. Is there anything else that could be helpful for me as I try to transition?

Hey folks. 3 YOE, working in tech at a great company, and making 135K TC in Austin.

Have an admit at Columbia and received 30K in aid each year, so I anticipate paying 110K in tuition. With cost of living in upper Manhattan, estimating an additional 35K each year, so 180K total cost.

I want to stay in tech post MBA, but explore faang companies and product roles. Is this worth the cost? I figure I could make a jump in comp at least?

Need advice- recently got an offer & currently going through the background check via HireRight. 1 of my experiences is an unpaid volunteering position abroad. I’m facing 2 problems:

(1) HireRight is asking for a name and number to verify my position, but the person that organized the volunteer experience is unresponsive to me and my emails/calls. I know not having a reference makes it look suspicious but I don’t feel comfortable putting someone as a reference w/o their approval. (Read comment)

I am a newbie. What’s the best way to give politically safe answers?

Am I the only one who hates behavioral questions ? I feel like when I’m asked questions about a “time I had an issue with a colleague “ or some other circumstantial question , I don’t really have an impactful story . Then it feels like they’re looking for a specific type of answer that I genuinely don’t relate to. The questions don’t reflect my skill set or my day to day work especially still being pretty early in my career .

Interested in GRC roles ? Can anyone help me ?

After 2 years at my company (Multi national company with >1k employees) I was promoted to Senior SWE with a 10% salary bump from 85k to 93.5 I live/work in the Baltimore area which I consider Medium COL. Is this a reasonable adjustment for a senior promotion in this area?

Hi everyone, I recently accepted a contract role at a telematics company with a start date in May. Contract signed. However, circumstances have changed and I got offered a permanent job at another company, better benefits, 2x the compensation. How do I gracefully, legally, and tactfully back out of my commitment to the telematics company?

Do other tech parents keep their kids away from social media? My daughter is 12 and I'm apparently the 'worst mom ever' because she can't have social media and I turn off the wifi at night.

What else can I do to improve my career?

I’m still young (25-28) and don’t feel like I have a lot of room to grow in my career this year and probably next.

Currently a senior software engineer making about 375k per year.
My WLB is good, work is pretty interesting.

What can I do?

It feels like I am just waiting to gain enough years of experience to be better suited for lead and management positions.

Second time interviewing for Google. Anyone have tips on what made them successful at the interviews?
