Oh, so your current CTC is 17 and you have an offer of 35 LPA in hand. Well, if you didn't have that offer in hand, I would have suggested you to travel, no matter what. But having this offer makes it interesting.
One more thing is NOT clear. If you are an LTI employee, why are you asking for a Capgemini US salary?
Second, if you are NOT travelling on H1B, then it is not worth it. Were you nominated this year for H1 and got thru or not? If H1B is not applied by CG yet, and management is promising for next year, that makes it pretty simple, take the offer outside and run away.
If you have H1 in process and then let's think about pros and cons.
1. Even after getting H1B, your travel is not certain. In the Discover Pune project, I know people who had H1 for 2 years and are still in India. So, first figure out if your project and client has a position open for Mainframe or not.
2. If it's L1, don't bother. I heard the salary is pretty less.
3. I have travelled to the US and Canada from the Discover project, they offer 70000 USD+ or 80000+CAD for Consultant. Then based on your designation, you will get more. Senior con will get in range of 85000 CAD or more and above will have 10% bonus as well. Try to negotiate your salary here, if you have some leverage. Family of 3, after all the expenses, I think you will save 80K-1.3 Lakhs. But with 35 LPA in India, you will probably save more and will lead a much better life in India ( maids and services in India are much cheaper).
Hope this helps.
In some cases I have heard that Senior Cons are getting 100K+ salaries but that is for niche skills. Mainframe in the US, is not considered a niche skills. But you can take 100K as a ceiling.
Your Us experience, resume-wise, I am not very sure buddy. It may or may not have an impact. Your Experience of working with the US clients may help you get more interviews back in India or get preference. But it won't be a deal breaker or help you get a massive salary hike or anything, if that's what's on your mind. But that experience will help you personally navigate many things in future.
Thanks for answering my curious questions. Appreciate it. But you still didn't say anything about your tech stack in Mainframe.
Anyways.... Glad to be of help buddy. I have lived with the same family members as yours and single earning member in the US and given the exorbitant rental prices ( which will vary as per location), I would say unless you get over 110-120K USD, it won't make a difference money wise. Rather, you may end up saving more in India and live more comfortable life.
But it would be a good experience to live in the US and if you are getting a chance, and your family members are keen, well, that matters more than saving 20-40K INR extra... Right!?
Good luck mate.
I am a core mainframe programmer with some experience on support & modernization as well, modernization as in to access mainframe application via API for distributed apps or having sync jobs to replicate mf data to oracle db so that distributed applications could access the data for their applications.
Few questions which will help people answer this question in a better way -
1. How is the wlb in India?
2. Do you or your family want to go to the US? Is your wife working?
3. Are you working on Core Mainframe projects or Mainframe Modernization projects?
I can answer your second part though - US markets are not as inflated as Indian markets. I think you will agree yourselves that a few years back getting 35+ with Mainframe was Unheard of but now it is pretty common in India. So I believe money would. Not to be the compelling reason to travel.
Well, if you want to experience life in the US, I will say that you should definitely travel. Other than that, I wouldn't suggest you keep your hopes high on Salary and savings front. Rest please answer the above questions and we can talk more.
As far as Current situation is concerned wlb is good but I fall short on finances. As my cctc is 17lpa.
My wife is not working, I have a year old son, and other responsibilities as I stay in joint family., home loan EMI as well.
Also, I am not yet sure if I will get to travel and on what visa. So that's still a Blackbox, but I was concerned majorly on 2 things.
1. How much impact does an onshore exp will have on my profile infuture after 5 years, if not much than only reason is money.
2. I stay a normal life with 17 LPA cctc. But with an offer of 35 lpa definitely will be a lot help. So speaking in terms of salary just wanted to get a fair idea if I do not take chance now for onshore what I am going to loose, although I don't have US offer yet. Also if some one can tell what salary does US onshore gets for capgemini I can do some calculations
So if I understand correctly, you are working in LTI with 17 LPA and have an offer in hand of 35 LPA from which company?
Also, is your tech stack core mainframe or something additional?
Thanks for your detailed reply, I think so I got the answer. Yes I am LTI employee having offer with another employer. Reason for CG is I am in talk with one of my previous senior manager (now a good colleague) in CG (not holding offer yet for CG) and trying to get a counter offer in CG but just wanted to check how difference an US onshore will make to my profile and pocket as the my colleague is insisting to have onshore experience.(fyi we just had a talk I don't have CG offer nor any visa processing) it just on the analogy that if I get CG offer and my colleague helps to find US onshore via CG.
So was calculating 35 Lpa Indian salary vs US onshore for 10 yrs exp.
