The ONLY reason I work, is to build a nest egg to provide for my kids someday. I have enough to tide me til EOL. I don't need a lot.
If government starts providing $ for me to have kids, to the point that I don't need to save, I will absolutely stop what I'm doing, and start making love. Lots of love.
You know that metaphor about how 9 women can't make 1 baby in 1 month? Well. They can make 9 in 9 months. 😉
That’s... interesting.
And if you’re also collecting unemployment, a family of five would be receiving $14K/month for an annualized income of $168K/year...what? I agree we should provide relief but at least propose something reasonable with a chance of passing
I think they always aim high. Then, it gets watered down.
This is the exact reason why I cannot stand Democrat’s. It’s like they don’t have brains and just wanna play politics to cash in on votes.

Yes let's waste valuable senate time with bills dead on arrival. Democrats can't complain about leadership when they make comedic gestures like this that they know are unproductive
Even if Republicans supported this too, there is no way to pay for it, Nevermind the inflationary side effects
It’s almost as if we’ve advanced technology to the point where we can produce what we need as an economy, without everyone needing to spend 75% of their waking time working

Why are Americans so upset about helping fund the average Joe but don’t think twice about the billions given to Corp America.

No. Spending is not critical to a good society.
Production comes first.
Savings comes second.
Spending / Trade comes third.
A family that grew rice, saved it, and ate it, does zero trade but lives well. When they have extra, they can trade and grow the economy. But that's extra. Production & savings first.
By your logic, that same family can eat Omakase and Japanese Steak every dinner, 365d/y and have a healthy economy.
This will never pass. Like they have to know that the Senate will never even entertain this seriously
Sure, but it supports the narrative that the GOP serves only the rich and hates everyday Americans

Zero chance of passing the GOP led Senate. They much prefer people waiting in lines at food banks.

Overly generous support bills like this aren't needed to make the Republicans look bad. Their support of Trump already does that.

And retroactive to March, so the first check would be $30K... Free jet skis for everyone!
I could really use a jet ski. Four wheeler, then jet ski, then snowmobile.

It’s almost like they’re using the pandemic to push socialism
C1 I don't need the government to practically double my take home pay to survive. My expenses are either flat or down and I'm still employed. Those that are unemployed are mostly made whole (or better) by the $600 boost.
I'll take money if they are giving it away but I don't see the logic in this. Leveraged small businesses are suffering, but employees really shouldn't be unless they were highly leveraged as well and now can't work a side hustle to make ends meet.

How will we pay for this? Think long term
SM, so the major increases to the military budget are what... don’t think everyone’s at the same level of the children you presumably discuss this stuff with.
NATO is actually an excellent use of military budget. As it multiplies the ability of the US to maintain some of it’s key strategic objectives with the support and funding of our allies. That’s the dumbest thing to cut.
What tariffs or trade deals have profited us anything? If you have any understanding of economics then you would know that protectionism is definitively bad not only for the global economy, but most critically for our economy.
Yes cut the military - it achieves some critical national objectives, but in excess is provides effectively nil social-economic value. Welfare and other social programs on the other hand provide numerous socio-economic benefits. That doesn’t mean there isn’t waste or misguided spending, but any dollar spent there generates far more value for Americans than any dollar spent on the military.
And yes, it’s bigger than the military. It should be, it’s valuable.
