100K is a lot in midwest while literally nothing in bay areas. It is very important to mention the location you’ll be heading to. Just to give you a rough figure, a bay area dev with 10 years makes 180K-200K in pay alone, stock options on top. Service companies tend to give around 120K-150K though.
From life perspective, my suggestion would be to take the H1 any day as 30L you can still make after like 6 months (when you know whether you’re getting the Visa or not). I know this is going to be a very unpopular choice but as an individual who has been working on H1 for past 6 years, I can assure you that your life will change forever. All that being said, I got my H1 at pretty young age and your experience might actually vary depending on whether you have family, kids etc. Point is, if you’re getting 30L today, you will get same or more in next 6 months so why not take the red pill and see what you can become.
Thank you for the detailed reply. My worry is that my current company keep on saying they haven’t heard anything about onsite from last 6 months. Also most of my teammates working in on-site are from Miami. And my current company will not pay Indian salary once I moved to on-site. From reviews about working in US, I have seen people saying that the max we can save per month is about 1.5L. Is it true? If so I can save the same amount in India too. So is it worth to wait for 6 months?
