3. So far the most severely affected population are older and had other medical problems. While the speed at which it’s spreading is somewhat worrisome, if you’re younger and healthy the symptoms tend to be no worse than a common cold. Now that being said, stuff can mutate again quickly so we’ll see how much things can get contained now

2000 might seem like nothing, but remember it becomes exponential. Once Chinese New Year finishes and everyone starts travelling out of Asia ... well it’ll certainly be fun for health officials

I think I’m about a 2, but I have no doubt the Chinese government are underreporting how widespread it is

1000% more concerned in general about me or a loved one contracting the regular flu, which has killed 2,400 people in the US since October

like

Not time to panic yet but these are entirely different things.

Yes the regular flu kills many people each year. But this new virus has a fatality rate many times that of the regular flu, and if it reaches pandemic level, would be a worldwide catastrophe since no one has any immunity to it (unlike the regular flu).

About as worried as I was about ebola

Ebola your vomiting and all sorts of fluids coming out from you before you reach a plane. This is different.

I legitimately read an article today that it’s actually closer to 80+k and China has been scrubbing data and the actual news for over a month now. Given I live 5 blocks from Chinatown in nyc, my paranoia level is 10+++++

I'm a little concerned. Mostly because I keep reading reports of experts talking about how they're legit concerned, more than they ever were before. It's not time to panic but it's not nothing either.

Hopefully it will all fizzle out but the long incubation period has me a bit worried.

Wow, looks like there are some infirm pensioners on here! Pretty sure healthy young consultants will be fine...

C1 prob some underlying factor or predisposition. Also need to consider air quality in China and high rates of smoking which would affect lung health and ability to clear out mucus = tougher time fighting the infection and more inflammation

Am 22 and Chinese American, so concern is fairly low (1) but parents concern is around 7

Would it be a terrible idea to put in my two weeks notice on Monday without already having an exit opp? Manager in D Advisory. I planned to seriously seek other opps beginning of the year but I have barely had any time to work towards my goals all year... it’s crazy. I find that I like who I am a lot more only on Thursday night - Sunday (relaxed, work out, cook, hang with family, plan for a business) & I have zero time for any of these on work days. Need a 1-2 month break from all Corporate misery
