13 weeks pregnant with my first. I got a flyer with so many baby-related classes from my OB. What classes are actually helpful? I’m overwhelmed!

I did breastfeeding and baby care. I didn’t want to know anything about child birth...just when to get to the hospital.

The only class I took that I would say was 100% necessary was CPR/choking. We had a choking incident when baby was about 11 months old and it was sooo scary but it was really helpful to have been prepared. We did back blows and it came right out. Choking is actually not that uncommon in babies/toddlers because they’re idiots and can’t eat well (I read somewhere that it could be as high as 30% but that seems high based on anecdotal experience- but have had at least two other friends had to do back blows!).

The other stuff might be nice to have, but you’ll figure it out if you don’t take it. Breastfeeding class was a bit of an eye opener, but again, not necessary.

No class will prepare you. Just enjoy it!

So true. We read 10 books and took 2 classes before and 1 after...the list of "no one told me this" was still SO LONG!!

See if the hospital you are giving birth has 2 day session, it’ll cover everything and tour of the unit/hospital. Sign up early classes will get filled up and tell them when you’re due Incase they try to group people closer to due date. For us both of us are going, the two day session, and I’m going to breast feeding by my self

I didn’t take any classes with my first. I did reading online about what to expect etc. however I would recommend first aid (cpr etc) and breastfeeding or utilizing a lactation consultant at the hospital.

like

Birthing, breastfeeding, and CPR. Skip the basics class (how to change a diaper etc) you’ll figure it out!

You have plenty of time! My insurance covers up to $100 or $200 (I forgot) so I took 3 classes to max that out - the birthing class is a must, and the breastfeeding was really helpful, and general baby care one was nothing revolutionary by the time I took it because I’d been studying up otherwise. I had no experience with kids otherwise so the classes (husband in attendance with me) was a good way to ensure we hit some key topics and discuss as a couple.

Thank you! I didn’t even think about insurance covering classes - I will look into that!

Do you prefer the Westin San Francisco, or the JW Marriott for leisure travel ? or any other Marriott hotels in San Fran?

Do you think using “him/her” for “he/she” (ex: “her is playing” “him not here yet”) is something that kids usually grow out of? Or does it need direct intervention? I have 2 students who exhibit this error, who otherwise should be dismissed. Normally I’d just keep them on and work on it alongside other goals, but they don’t have any other goals, and with COVID, and my upcoming maternity leave in March, a more compact caseload would be advantageous.

Just wanted to celebrate a little for completing my first week as an ACD and first week back after maternity leave.

Might be a silly question but I’m a working soon-to-be mom, pregnant with our first. My company’s policy is in office, but it’s a pretty casual environment. Looking to see much work maternity clothes I should buy or is reasonable? I’m at 18 weeks and none of my regular pants fit anymore. Any input is appreciated! I’d just like a gauge to see whether I’m going overboard :)

My partner and I planned a trip with all of his friends and their wives before I knew I was pregnant. We will be going and I’m 8 weeks pregnant. I considered not going because I feel like without them all knowing I’m pregnant they’re going to think I’m super lame. We decided the best thing to do is just tell his friends (although a bit earlier than ideal) and then take the pressure off me to show up in any way that doesn’t feel good for me. I don’t even know what my question is…..

My husband yells at me in front of my 2 years old, even when he is scared. He needs to express his anger out before he can shut down. I am planning to leave him but I am hesitant because I am afraid this would negatively impact my son more, not having a father figure around much.... not the first time, my husband promises multiple time that at least he would control his anger in front of kid but never Lee up the promise...sometimes he would even throw stuff (not at me and my child)...
