Thoughts and prayers… guns don’t kill people, crazy people do…. Damn libs coming to take our guns…
Happens every 2 weeks
Yes, mass shootings have occurred in other countries- and IMMEDIATELY following those events those governments made sweeping and restrictive changes to their gun regulations. You know what happened after that?? No more mass shootings! So if every other developed nation on the planet can successfully implement this solution, why not US?
This is low hanging fruit for this administration- there’s just 50 R senators who won’t give up their NRA ranking/money to do what’s needed.
18 families are left without their babies and 3 families without their mom/dad/husband/wife/sister/brother/ . 21 seats in the dinning room that will forever remain empty. As a parent, I can’t fathom the pain these families are going through right now. For the first time ever, picking up my 7 year old from school feels a huge miracle and blessing. Hug your babies a little tighter and longer tonight. My heart breaks for these families.
Think of this the next time you’re“advocating for your right to defend yourself “
Certain political factions in this country look at a gun locker full of toys, and then look at a bunch of grim headlines, and say to themselves “this is worth it”. The political will for any change just isn’t there in this country

The GOP is a death cult. They will use tragedies like this to sow fear among their base, and posture their spineless candidate as the sole savior who can keep them safe.
And yet there was a school resource officer that made contact with the shooter prior and didn’t stop it and and police on hand relatively quickly but no action until 40-60 minutes in, instead taking time to pepper spray, tackle and cuff parents trying to get in. A bunch of people with guns and no prevention. Truly the only immediate solution is less-no guns.
Even mental health argument is such a cop out. More therapist aren’t going to solve the issue of a society where countless teens and young adults feel hopeless. The solution to mental health issues skyrocketing is not medication and therapy. It's making the world a place where people can thrive. It's better to not injure than to treat an injury. American neo liberal capitalism is broken.
To all the Republicans blaming it on mental issues and not gun issues - Many countries in Europe and Asia also have a large population with serious mental problems, but there are WAY less people getting killed by guns there. The US has the highest homicide rate of all.

Thanks for attempting to understand. These regulations need to happen at the federal level. If the government cannot (or will not) attempt to regulate black markets and gun shows, how will taking guns away from responsible gun owners fix that? Not saying that will happen but a journey of a thousand miles starts with the first step.
I would be willing to wager the reforms I support are what the majority of people want. There is no scenario in the world that someone would need a gun same day, without a permit, and cannot wait a minimum of 7 days to take possession.
Another whole issue in itself are ghost guns. Those are scary.
If Sandy Hook wasn’t enough to push politicians into supporting meaningful gun reform, I firmly believe nothing will.
But at this moment, the anger I feel towards Texas politicians is unrivaled. They won’t let women receive abortions but they won’t do a damn thing to protect those kids once they’re in school.
I hope Cruz enjoys the NRA rally this weekend.
Please read my last 2 lines again. I mean it
BBC theorizing the shooter’s motivation had something to do with the school being 80% Hispanic… my god.
M3 apologies I hadn’t seen it on paper - i was watching the live broadcast where it was mentioned
The fallacy of the second amendment is starting to show its obsolescence. Since the last elementary school shooting 10 years ago, how many times had owning guns as civilians benefitted society? Zero. And how many elementary school aged lives would be saved had guns been banned? 18. We have had no invasions from foreign entities and no civil wars to justify the need of the second amendment. I can’t imagine the constitution was written with the use case of an 18 year old mass shouting a bunch of kids. For that America would probably have been one our founding fathers would not want to live in.
Guns should be banned.

I think human ego is the real barrier to gun reform. Too many people in favor of gun rights, who have expressed support for gun rights, are just closed to the idea that the solution lies in gun reform.
Present day gun laws make no sense whether you read the constitution word for word or in a historical context. Scalia had to basically say that he will only read the 2nd amendment verbatim only half way through to loosen the nation's understanding of the 2nd amendment.
For much of American history the 2nd amendment was a forgotten amendment - it was only after the NRA was hijacked by profiteering gun manufacturers that the debates took off.
It is so sad that people can't see the obvious.
Old Onion piece but man does the title still apply:

The UK has only had one mass shooting since they instituted stricter gun laws after a mass shooting of elementary school students:
https://www.cnn.com/2017/10/04/world/gun-control-uk-australia/index.html
The country and legislators have decided that school shootings are an acceptable cost for the gun culture we have now, nothing changed in 2012 and things are even more polarized now, if it was not an acceptable cost they would do something about it
We need to start aggressively institutionalizing the mentally that show a propensity to violence.

A2 - “THE trial?” Which one? Do you realize that the vast majority of the insurrectionists charged haven’t actually actually gone to trial yet? And I think your eyesight must be off - what I and most others saw was a rabid mob, hell-bent on destroying everything and anyone in their path. Millions of dollars’ worth of damage to the Capitol building from idiots using whatever they could get their hands on to smash through windows and doors. Over a hundred police officers seriously injured. And 6 people died, not just 1.
A fucking elementary school. That’s not gun violence, that’s pure evil.
350 million guns were not involved in a murder today along with 300 million people. How about we attack the root cause? Why was this evil person walking the streets? Why was the school not in lock down? Why were there no SRO’s? Tired of people searching for the easy answer of punishing the majority.

That’s funny, because here in VA I’ve been to plenty of gun shows and could have easily bought anything I wanted, cash & carry.
I hope you realize that 80% of the murders committed in the US are through handguns…. Don’t use this as an excuse to ban Armalite Rifles.
You can tell the kids’ parents that there is no way for their kids to still be alive if the shooter couldn’t find an assault rifle
Jesus Christ. Those poor families.
It is so sad that people don’t understand the issue here and do not control and have laws to protect the kids.
Let’s address the mental health issue in this country
That’s a huge problem (as it is in every country) but only our country allows the mentally ill to purchase weapons without background checks.
When are we going to get gun control?

Too much.
