Hey all- I recently got laid off as an analyst due to large COVID cuts. Looking to make ends meet. Was supporting deal leads plan and manage projects (financials, resource mngmt, etc) and relationship mngmt between firm leadership and IT startups as well - both work I loved. Since I had <1 YOE in consulting (recent PSU grad), looking to get advice on how to move forward. Have ~1 YOE PM work in FS/healthcare tech prior to A. Friends tell me to get SCRUM certs. Open to any advice and thoughts!

NDA’s are bullshit. I get if you’ve got work that’s confidential etc etc. (but how many of us are designing the new laser beam eye implants for iPhone?)

But mostly they are just used to force people not to talk shit about things they absolutely should be talking shit about. Think how successfully they’ve been used over the years to silence women who were paid off after suffering abuse. Or you’re forced to sign them to get severance packages. It’s just one more myriad of ways workers get F’d.

I was fired by my firm in Oct for a combo of covid-related & other reasons, jumped right into volunteering for Biden campaign, then spent Dec/Jan dealing with family issues. Now trying to figure out how to address in interviews, what to do about writing samples & references. In the past I’ve only worked with recruiters when they contacted me about a particular job. Can I hire a recruiter to help me with my job search? Or a career coach? If so, how do I find the right person?

Is it any surprise we’re seeing mass layoff in tech? Years of rich friends hiring rich friends with no work ethic has lead us here. I know way too many tech people who work maybe an hour a day followed by errands and traveling. A lot of getting in these places is who you know, apparently that doesn’t work out like it used to. The amount of people who worked for Meta, Apple, Amazon, etc for a few months / maybe a year is astounding. it’s around that time frame a boss can tell if you’re worth it

Can a law firm in CA rescind an offer if background check reveals an omitted employment history? Worked at a firm for 2-3 months back in 2019 that wasn’t a good fit. Not fired but left to really drive my career in a better direction. I now have an offer from a great firm and scared background check will affect my chances.

My GF has trouble standing up for herself. She's on client travel and one of her co-workers made her really upset (very uncalled for and should have never happened). She called me crying. After consoling her I told her that she needs to go to her manager and possibly HR (yes it's to that level).
She told me she can't and she's not that person (she thinks she'll get the other person fired). She knows that she should and hates that she doesn't stand up for herself. What can I do to help?

While I am in the office, I don’t always get the billable amount since I don’t have enough work.
