160K out of my 225K net worth is in retirement savings. Anything I should reconsider here? I’ve been maxing things out and always felt like that was the right answer, but want to know if I’m missing anything. I’m 25.

Tax deferred retirement vehicles, such as a traditional 401(k) (NOT Roth), is one of the best vehicle in the wealth accumulation phase. They immediately lower your current marginal income tax rate. There are ways to access those funds early, without paying penalty.

If you're not, try maxing out HSA. They are the ultimate tax efficient instruments. Contribution is pre-tax, growth is tax free, and distribution for eligible expenses are not taxed.

Super helpful - thanks! I don’t have access to an HSA through my employer so unfortunately can’t consider that option

Nope that’s totally fine. pretty sensible when you consider the tax benefits. I’m about $55k in retirement, $30k in savings.

Not necessarily planning to retire super young as I need work to keep me going; just would like to be set by the time I’m 50 so I can “retire” if I want!

I think you’re fine. Keep doing that - whats your real estate situation / goal?

Renting now. Goal to own / have kids within 10 years. I’m in a HCOL area (would be looking at 800K+ for a single family home in the suburbs or 600K+ for a 1-bedroom in the city).

How much you make?

I’m at an MBB

If you had a large sum invested in a taxable brokerage account and an initial college savings for your kids in a 529 but need to start saving more aggressively for their college, would you sell the brokerage stocks and move that money into the 529 so it can grow tax free? There wouldn’t be any gains tax on the brokerage sale because the stocks having made or lost money.

If I see one more article on how millennials are ruining the economy or housing market by not buying enough homes or selling enough homes I'm going to scream. We were saving for 3 years before Covid and had to use a solid chunk to take care of ourselves and our families during quarantine. Now that we're ready to save again inflation and COL are at an all-time high and we're headed into a recession. And somehow this is my fault for what...not being a boomer? Bffr.

Hello Fishes !!

Cctc - 6.8 LPA
YoE - 2 Years

I have accepted an offer for BA3 band for 10 LPA (46% hike). Is this a good offer or was I low balled ? Wanted to know as this is my first switch so I cannot judge if this is a good offer or not.
I had communicated my expected salary of 11 LPA (fixed) during negotiations for which HR said she would have to ask the concerned team. I then said that I am willing to negotiate and was offered 10. Was this wise or should I have waited ?

My company covers in depth results each week, including meetings set/attended, wins, revenue, retention etc. I feel as if evaluating in such depth is detrimental to the psyche, as you never get to “ride the high.” In addition, some weeks are simply slower than others, and it’s not always representative of what the results at the end of the period or quarter will be. Is this not a big deal, and I’m I placing too much importance on it? Or is it beneficial to review results less frequently?

What happened here? I refinanced my student loans in November 2019 and got a 10-year variable at ~2.5% pegged to LIBOR. When 2020 hit, LIBOR tanked and my interest rate went down to 0.75%.
