Hi Fishes, I grabbed an offer at Accenture with 12 LPA fixed for Level 9. I'm not getting a retention offer from my current company at 13.5 lpa. How do I go about a counter offer with Accenture HR? Also tell me how to approach this situation smoothly.
If HR doesn't fulfill the counter offer, is it ok to accept 12 lpa fixed for Level 9 and when will I get a hike here and how much would it be approximately?
Accenture Please provide your insights. This is my first switch so I ne more exposure

Yeah - the presumption that it’s “way too low” is a little binary. Smaller, independent agencies might not have 200k for CDs, but if the leadership is good and they’ve carved out a niche that’s interesting to YOU as a creative person, who the fuck cares. Five years from now, you might be CCO with stock and the prestige of helping turn the place out. I once turned down ECD for less and now that that agency is on top of the world I see it as a possible missed opportunity. If it’s all about the salary, you’re in the wrong biz, no?
Goals.
Yep, that’s ACD territory.
That’s why our industry is full of junior people making to leadership level roles. Don’t do that. If you want to step up and feel prepared do to so, do it the right way and ask for a 200+ salary bases.
The fact that you have to ask that says you’re not anywhere near ready for the job. You should’ve been making that as an ACD. And you really should know what the roles of those reporting TO you should be...as well as what a CD here should be making. Being off by 30K is just sad
I’d buy a nice center console and a country club membership with a salary like that
It’s low, but if there’s a trade off that makes it worth it, it could be fine for a couple of years. For example, a super chill environment with light hours, or a non holding company agency that you want to work with even if they don’t have the funds to pay you 200K
I make 170K as a CD in NYC. And I've been in the business 15 years. I guess I was always low? As an ACD I made 150K and thought the 25K bump was sweet when I took this job. Now I know why I was spared during the last round of layoffs!
CD7 that's a good point. When I'm interviewing I'm actually trying not to top off what I can get as I don't want to be the nail that sticks out too much salary wise.
That’s on the high end for Chicago tho.
OP - your current shop got you to bend once. Now the sport is to see how far they can take it. Keep looking outside and interview as a CD, and come across that level. ACD to CD is the big jump where the heard is thinned. Think about what your specialty is? The lowball place in mention is most likely second or third tier and your resume will show that trajectory. And your book as well. A great CD would be able to command 20-50% more than this shit offer when in NYC.
Yea this honestly makes no sense. Directors in other areas aren't making that much. Even other people on here that do creative don't say they make that much
I’m at 190 as an ACD outside NYC, so yes that’s a little bonkers.
What's ACD? Associate creative director? Weird cause associate directors in other areas make like 130kish, or so I thought
This is enlightening...I will stop feeling guilty for what I make now that I realize how much more my creative peers make
What city?
Uhhhh...no. Just...no
@LB1. Yeah... sucks. Though cost of living is smaller and I love CHI
I took a pay cut to be there and I’m regretting it. Makes me feel like I was taken advantage of. The position is creatively rewarding, don’t have to report up, but the account folk I work with are the worst in the biz. I’m going to see if they will allow me to work less (60-70hrs now) since they can’t pay me more.
Generally $225 for that level here
