18 month (1.5 yr) sleep regression- likely due to major changes in childcare (from au pair to daycare)…… when they cry at night or early morning, do you get them and try to put them back to bed? Or do they just end up sleeping in your arms for two hours? Ugh idk what to do but when I pick her up n calm her she cries the moment I put her back down…(normally sleeps 7-7)

I'm not sure if we've dealt with many sleep regressions but when we transitioned my daughter (now 20 months old) from our bedroom to her own room it was a struggle. Initially I'd get her every time she woke up and rock her to sleep or put her in our bed. I even spent some nights sleeping on her bedroom floor with her because some sleep was better than none.

Nothing really helped unless myself or dad were with her. Eventually I decided to let her cry it out and it was painful for the 15-20 minutes but after about 2 or 3 nights, we've never had sleep issues again. She asks to go to bed around 7:15 every day and if she wakes up she will turn on her music toy and go back to sleep until her normal wake up time of 7am-ish. The toy is a Fisher price soothe and glow... She loves it and we travel with it too. To be fai, I'd set a time limit and if she didn't fall back asleep after that 15-20 minute time limit, I'd absolutely go and get her..

Either way, things will work out and there is light at the end of the tunnel with these things!! You're doing great!

This lasted for 2-3 weeks and ended 2 weeks ago for us. We took her to our bed but made sure we change the diaper first as there was a leak once. Eventually she went back to normal. Turning 19 months this week.

Sleep regressions are awful! Stay consistent to your sleep and soothing routine. There really isn’t much you can do to prevent me from picking up my baby. If she cries, I’m going to go get her and I dare anyone to try and stop me 🤣 However, before I do, we give her 15-30 minutes to try and self soothe because we know she’s capable. If she’s still crying after that time period, we go in her room and see if we can get her to lay down and soothe her by patting her back and singing to her. If she calms down, we stop patting her back but keep the weight of our hand on her back and keep singing. We’ll remove our hands and keep singing if that goes well. Then we stop singing and back out of the room. If she insists on being picked up, we’ll sit in her chair, rock her, comfort nurse her (she doesn’t ask to be nursed when my husband soothes her), and sing 1 song to her. We explain what’s going to happen as soon as we sit down, “Baby, it’s time to go to bed. Mommy/Daddy love you very much. I am going to rock you and sing you 1 song then we’re going to get in our crib.” We make her repeat the plan as best she can (she’s a pretty verbal kid so that’s worked for us and still does) this part helped her understand what’s going to happen and not surprise her. Now, she’ll just ask for the crib once she gets sleepy because she knows that’s the next step. It was all about creating a consistent bedtime routine and sticking to it even during the regressions. Hope that helps!

Does anyone know if in a negligent supervision case against a school district if it’s any kind of mitigating factor that there was not enough money for the school to hire more staff? (Fight broke out between students and there weren’t enough staff to prevent injuries. They would have had more stuff, but there was no budget for it.) Any thoughts? I know the school is held to the reasonable supervision standard. Is it possible they acted reasonably given the constraints of the limited budget?
