1 ACD at a big global agency in bigger ad town, 100% on one national brand OR CD at tiny agency and smaller hometown where you could touch everything and shape the culture and trajectory of shop???

I have done the latter for the same reasons you have provided. Ended up returning to a bigger market (after a long hard fight to do so). While the idea of bringing big agency learnings into a small shop sounds like the obvious win, my experience was met with stubbornness and unwillingness to take risks. Small shops in small towns typically have small mentality and small budgets. This is not always the case and there are certainly small shops that truly do great, innovative work. My advice would be to step back and read the writing in the wall should it appear. Does the agency tout a few Fortune 500 clients but the experience is limited to banners, social, or other small projects? Are they executing digital experiences in a progressive way? Who are their bread and butter clients? How big is the team (and will they likely be servicing the bread and butter clients)? Hopefully, it is a real opportunity for you to make a big leap in your career. Best of luck.

sounds like you made your mind up already @OP and are looking for us to give you permission, right? you want to CD position.

It’s a lifestyle choice, so make the choice with your spouse. Just know that you’ll probably have another opportunity to be a CD in the smaller agency & market, but it’s harder to go back in the other direction

As a CD at a big agency and with 2 kids, I often find myself daydreaming about small agency life. But the big agency experience is not something I'd chase later in life so I'm glad I'm getting it done now.

Being on a single brand is just as limiting as being at a smaller agency. The only work I can reference now in interviews is garbage because the client is garbage and their legal is Times New Garbage so it doesn’t reflect well. I’d go with the CD job.

I have offers with Bain (Sr mgr) and BCG (PL2), and will be focusing on their PE practices. I know Bain is the leader in PE work, but having trouble deciding which offer to go for. Biggest factors for me to consider is career progression (in consulting), culture, optionality in the types of deals/projects. My conflict right now is I had better interactions with BCG interviewers and initially leaned that way, but the infrastructure & market presence of Bain in this space is strong. Thoughts?

Two questions: 1) Thoughts on AP business and culture, and 2) Thoughts on which AP level I would be aligned to? Thank you!!

Was hired into a company at a level that was more junior than my skills (Was out of work due to pandemic for a year). I’ve been at the company 5 months. We’re going through a reorg and my new position will really be leveraging my years of experience more so than other role. Is it appropriate to discuss a raise/adding senior to title? Or should I do the job and then prove myself then talk about raise. I have more experience than the senior members of my team. New leadership than when I was hired
