Second this. Take pics too.

So many people get you things for baby, but don’t forget things for *your* healing and comfort! None of this is sexy, but they helped me, so sharing here. Good luck mom!! - I brought the white noise machine to the hospital. It helped baby sleep since people are in and out of the room. - Maxi pads - you’ll be bleeding for about 6 weeks. - Ice packs that you can put in your underwear. - Maybe some extra mesh or super soft underwear - I got horrible hemorrhoids, so I got a donut pillow to sit on, and that helped when I was nursing or pumping. - Dry shampoo - Water bottles so you can easily sip it and have it on hand all the time. - Snacks and meals you can throw in the freezer and eat later. Once you get home and figure out your new routine, you can always order online delivery. You got this! 💪

I liked the Always Underwear too! I also splurged on Frida Mom briefs and they were super comfortable!

Get a massage, sit on the couch and do nothing, paint your nails (or whatever equivalent self care thing makes you feel great)

Prep freezer meals, work on exercises for optimal fetal positioning, get a Brazilian wax (makes taking care of any possible stitches much easier), practice installing/strapping in baby in your car seat (check out @safeintheseat on ig), make sure baby’s day 1 sleep space is set up along with diapers/wipes/pacifiers/feeding supplies, familiarize yourself with your pump if you intend to breastfeed

likehelpful

Totally - same here. Thinking back to the whole process after #1, that would’ve helped.

Remember this is your baby and you are the expert on this little person. Don’t let the people in the hospital bully you.

When the baby arrives - take it one day/hour at a time and do what works for you and your family. Congratulations!

like

Get out of your house - go shopping, walking, anything that’s fun to you. Your first few weeks will be a bit of a blur and I found it hard leave the house (not to mention concerns about taking your infant baby places)

like

Yes this is a good idea because most likely you’ll be at home for awhile.

like

If you don’t have family help and can swing the cost, look into a night nurse/nanny. We did for our first (3-4x a week for the first 3-4 weeks) after she was born and I’m glad we did. Not essential, but a nice to have. If you plan to pump or breastfeed you’ll be up nights anyhow but you’ll be able to just pump/feed and go back to bed (night nanny burps and gets the little one back to bed, and also cleans parts/bottles).

like

Go out and have fun. Go out to breakfast, get your nails done, get a massage, go on a date night. All the fun stuff that you can’t do as easily when you’re toting a newborn around with you

Order extra padsicles, donut pillow, nursing pumping bra, breast heating pads, boppy pillow from Amazon. Sleep a ton! Do your toes, cut your nails. Setup the nursery. Buy low flow baby bottles. A box of formula just in case. Watch your fav movie. Catch up on your shows. Anything else self care that you won't get to do for the next month or two.

like

Binge tv shows, mani pedi - make sure nails are just regular polish (not gel etc) that can be easily removed at home, eat out at restaurants with your friends, get hair cut/colored if relevant

Be ready! My baby came 3 weeks early! So be ready and then relax and enjoy

Even if you are planning on breastfeeding, get formula to have on hand at home! I had my first baby in April and he came three weeks early. My milk didn’t come in until two weeks postpartum, so in the mean time we were scrambling to figure out which formula was best once we got home from the hospital so he could eat. My breastfeeding journey has been anything but easy or traditional and I am feeding him now by exclusively pumping (he never learned a proper latch), so remember to be gentle with yourself and remember “fed is best”.

like

If it works for your body, go out for a walk alone. Take the smallest purse you can (or none, if you can swing it with your pockets). Stay out of the house for as long as you please. Your sleep is probably toast at this point and that’s fine, but oh my god, I didn’t really get how much STUFF I’d be carrying for months, EVERY OUTING, and how I really couldn’t get more than 3-4 hours alone while breastfeeding — always had to be back to baby or pump. (It’s fine and it doesn’t last forever but I resented it for a while!)

like

Relax. Don't stress. And make sure you're already packed for the hospital. 2 of my 3 came 11 days early. The other was 3 days late.

like

Definitely spend some time and self-care for you! Mani & pedi, facial, blowdry, read a book (or books), go shopping, etc. I would also recommend going on a date with your partner too!

Has anyone been unjustly rejected by their children due to encouragement by other parent/grandparents/other? It happens usually during separation and divorce but could happen within a marriage. In many extreme cases, the child is prevented from a relationship with a parent due to a being blocked physically and emotionally. I'm currently in a toxic marriage where spouse and MIL badmouth me (among other things) to my 5 yo son to the point where he rejects, badmouths, and even bullies me.

Right before Labor Day, after 2 months of dating, my guy made us “official” and asked me to be his girlfriend. (He made a romantic event of it, arranging a picnic by the lake). Ever since then, everything’s been great. until tonight. His ex, who he says he broke up with a couple of weeks before we met, called and says she could be pregnant (took a home pregnancy test and is going to the doctor ASAP). I’m full of all sorts of questions and feelings I’m not sure I have a right to. Advice?

Do NOT claim you are "colorblind" in the workplace. 1. DE&I knowledge is now a core leadership competency. Colorblind claims will earn you the reputation of being DEI-ignorant at best & racist at worst. 2. Colorblindness within the context of workplace diversity is an obvious lie. You do NOT want to be painted as an intellectually dishonest leader. 3. Colorblind claims signal that you lack the leadership skills & vocabulary to have key conversations. Ask questions here, in this safe space.
