Not crazy, the biggest drawback is the limited footprint you have with Hyatt. It got better over the years, but still harder to be loyal especially when your projects place you outside of major cities. Personally I try to hit both top tier statuses every year to keep process going on both ends. Having all your points in one basket in the meantime also might hurt you. Was looking for some cities in Europe the other day and they didn't babe any Hyatt even though they were on the larger side.

I like Hyatt properties better. There just aren’t as many of them

Not crazy if you go to places that there are Hyatts. I'm actually considering Hilton lately... If only they'd make their status mean something

like

Tried being loyal to Hyatt once. Worked out for 2 projects, then the next few locations had nothing for Hyatt - at least with Marriott / SPG there's always something nearby

like

(Contd) rationale is that 1. New Marriott requirement for lifetime status is 10 yrs with Platinum 2. I think I can hit Hyatt lifetime requirement (1M basepoint) in 5-6 years) 3. Better perks as Globalist (guest of honor, fee waiver..etc)

Keep in mind that you need to earn 1,000,000 base points to earn lifetime status

Also now hyatt acquired SLH (small luxury hotels)..they are amazing hotels (atleast from its website) That's additional 500 hotels in Hyatt's portfolio

If you’re spending 33K/year, spread your brands around and buy a few suites so you get courtesy card

What's courtesy card?

The drawback to Hyatt is a much smaller footprint, but I do like their hotels

That article is spot on the courtesy card. If your not a CEO or connected to someone at Hyatt you’ll never get it. The biggest benefit is you’re guaranteed a room even on short notice with some special event exceptions (ie super bowl). Then you get the best available room.

I’ve been told by my firm that I need to get a corporate amex card. I’m new to consulting- can I still use my own credit card to get the points and expense that way? If it’s the corporate card can I still get points for it also or does it only go to EYP? Curious to know if a corporate amex is even a good thing or the benefits for it. Thanks!
