$50 Expedia gift cards to everybody in the bridal party? Good or no? That way they can use it for a hotel, flight, etc. Alternatively I was thinking of spending ~$50 for an experience that each of them would like. Examples: 2 lawn tickets to a concert, wine tasting, etc. I’ve been racking my brain on what to do! Y’all probably have seen my posts before. 🤣 Ive always gotten something in a smaller price range (~$5-10) that I end up donating. Fiancé wants to get everybody a Yeti and call it a day.
Note to self when on Marriott bankruptcy project... wipe out or adjust discounted gift cards...
I can help!
And the gift cards don’t get wiped out in bankruptcy
Marriott is not going bankrupt lol, their model is vastly different than airlines. They are like McDonald’s, collects franchise revenue but usually doesn’t share cost
Laying off staff when there isn’t work to do is taking advantage of costs being variable and appropriately reducing them given the reduction in demand. Has nothing to do with their ability to remain solvent. The asset-light hotel brand model is very different from an airline that has loads of liabilities related to physical assets (that there’s no market for currently) and purchase obligations that they can’t get out of.
It is if you think Marriott will still charge the same rates after this pandemic and you’ll want to visit their properties.
These are for dollar value gift cards redeemable are almost any Marriott family property worldwide with no expiration date, so rates don’t matter (i.e., you’d be paying whatever the rate you book is at that time and just giving a gift card you paid 20% below face for instead of a credit card for payment).
You can get a refund within 60 days so there’s some flexibility. If processed following Marriott instructions, currency conversion is at the market exchange rate (what you’d see on xe.com), not the hotels posted exchange rate. There are reports on flyer talk of a few properties refusing to follow that, however. I’ve been “living” in a Marriott property for the past month and a half, so this is like a retroactive 20% discount on rent. Also a great way to meet spend requirements for credit card signup bonuses. I’ve bought $7000 in Marriott gift cards so far this week. I’ll probably buy another $5000 given I’ll likely continue living in hotels for a bit
Just FYI i don’t believe you can use them on the prepaid rates which are normally significantly lower than the flexible rates.
Probably a good deal if you are planning a Marriott stay this year and will be paying for your stay with cash instead of points
Could u get your money back from the credit card company if Marriott was to go bankrupt?

Just curious how it will work with foreign hotels. What currency conversion will they be using?
