20 weeks pregnant...it gets harder and harder each week to leave my husband. Pre-baby, no prob, now crying. Imagine it’ll be too hard post baby. Am I lying to myself that I can make consulting work?

Pregnancy hormones are a real bitch! I went through the same thing during both pregnancies (about to come back from maternity leave with my 2nd — currently dreading it). After I got back to work with my first, travel definitely felt like more of a burden than before, but we all adjusted to it. I was able to reduce my travel a little bit (to 1-2 nights away from home) which helped and made me think this career is manageable. My advice is to not worry about it right now, just get through the rest of your pregnancy and figure out if it will work for you long term when you get back. I feel like there’s too much pressure on moms to know exactly what they want to do post baby the second you tell people you’re pregnant. Don’t put that pressure on yourself right now

That being said, I knew before I was even pregnant that I wouldn't be able to handle the travel once baby came (infertility gave me plenty of time to think about it). I traveled up through 32 weeks and worked remotely the rest of the time. Now that back, I'm on an internal assignment. Tbh, it's just as stressful and challenging as my client work was, though it is pretty thankless, but I'm home to put my baby to bed at night 9 times out of 10, and that makes me happy every single day.

uplifting

Honestly, you have to see how you feel once the baby comes. As soon as I popped the first one out, my priorities changed big time. And it was an overnight kind of thing that hit me super hard. You have maternity leave to figure all that out, and I am sure your firm will make arrangements to support you being home more on the beginning.

Post baby I find travel to be near impossible. So far I am on local cases but if I can’t continue to be local it will probably be time to quit, no questions

I’m with BCG1 - when I had my baby, priorities shifted big time for me (used to be a non stop workaholic) - Initially went back to a very heavy workload with moderate travel and it was an unhealthy situation (barely sleeping, stressed, etc.) - was honest with leadership who has worked with making my travel schedule much more manageable- but if I’m asked to go back on the road full time, I personally won’t be able to do it and will gladly hand in my notice (beyond not wanting to, but can’t due to my husband’s schedule and I’m so over coordinating with daycare and nannies to have extended coverage) - just remember, everyone is different and wants different things - I’ve met moms who are completely fine being on the road, and hey, I think that’s great!, whatever works for you is what you should do, don’t let other’s way of life influence what you think is right for you and your family - only you will know what’s right, and you’ll be able to find a way to make it work - you’ve got this!!!

Pregnancy hormones can be a bear, so don't assume that the way you feel now is how you will feel when baby is a few months old. If traveling is too much, talk to your doctor and HR about setting a date to stop traveling. You don't have to decide what you will do post maternity leave right now, so don't stress about it right now!

It is possible to make it work but if you have strong feelings about it now it may be very hard for you. My personal opinion is to not make any decisions now and wait to see how I feel once I am off maternity leave. Things may be different then. If it’s not for you once you try it then you know for sure

I wish I could tell you it gets easier, but I’ve found it incredibly difficult

Aren’t you not supposed to fly after a certain point? Cosmic rays and all? Not just the potential of giving birth on a plane. I know in my family there is a whole list of things you can’t do when pregnant

Our school instituted a district wide 50% floor/grading policy. If you give a student an assignment and they do nothing, not even write their name, or turn in a blank sheet of paper, they get a 50%. If they score less than 50% on a quiz or test, we have to mark it up to a 50%. This is the new norm and is causing kids to not do work, or just the bare minimum. It has taken the joy out of teaching and has taken away the accountability of students. Anyone else facing this? What do you do?

Hi Ladies - Trying to decide when to officially go on leave. I was thinking two weeks before I’m due but everyone keeps telling me to work up until the due date to have more time at the end with the baby. I’m honestly just tired of working and barely get any sleep at this point. Wouldn’t mind having some me time (I have 5 months leave) but also realize the baby could come early. Let me know your thoughts!

Just started working at a big law firm about 3 weeks ago in a completely different field than I expected nor wanted to be in (but I needed to start working asap). I’m just a baby lawyer but I can’t stop shaking the feeling that I don’t even want to be a lawyer. Is this just nerves? the environment? or is this an even normal feeling?

Anyone try to teach your kid to read? Our 5yo has been home for the past year. So I am trying to get her started on “teach your child to read in 100 easy lessons” to get her ready for stuff she missed by not going to preschool. Struggling a bit coz I am an immigrant and never learnt this way either. Any video resources that will help me and my 5yo?

I need recommendations for nice maternity work pants. My office is WFH but I occasionally need to go in. I’m 16 weeks (first pregnancy) and today realized in a panic when I attempted to get dressed that my work pants are either too tight in the waist to wear or getting there. I’m tall (5’10”) and usually wear Theory, Rag and Bone or J. Crew work pants. Any suggestions for nice black maternity pants that I could pair with a blouse or blazer? Thx!!

When is the earliest you’d suggest taking a pregnancy test? Took one and got a negative result 9 days post ovulation but have read you should wait at least 10-12 days post ovulation? If so - why do tests claim “6 days before missed period?” Tryna have a pre-busy season baby problems 😂! Thanks in advance!

I have a pending I-485 and my case was recently “ready to be scheduled for an interview” about 2 weeks ago. I haven’t traveled to my home country for 3 years and was looking forward to going this December … I have a valid H1b that expires in 2023 and would need to get it stamped. There are appts available in my home country. However I don’t have AP (did not apply due to valid H1b). Is there any risk to my GC application if I travel abroad and get a H1b stamp to re-enter the US?
