2. A 2 year vacation for rich people.
3. A tax that internationals have to pay in order to get a solid corporate job

I feel like I’m in a vicious cycle. I think people in my practice group don’t like working with me, and that when I make mistakes they are held against me where I’m not given room to grow. My whole group talks badly about the associates who are still learning/make mistakes, so I know that these mistakes I’m making are being said about me too. Partners in my group make an effort to get to know other associates but not me. Anxiety is causing my happiness and work product to slip. What do I do?

I started at a V40 firm around the beginning of the year, and it’s quickly become clear that meaningful, substantive opportunities aren’t available to the associates because the partners are hoarding all the work. The people are nice, but I’m concerned that spending too much time at this firm without getting any competitive experience will end up hurting me in the long run. When is too soon for me to consider looking for another opportunity?

Partner: Tells me to follow up with them repeatedly to keep things on their radar.
Me: Does that because we have a filing deadline.
Partner: Snaps at me for following up again.

I just lateraled into BigLaw as a senior associate in a small market office. However, shortly thereafter became the caretaker for my father. If I don’t make my hours am I off partnership track? How does that work?

Controversial opinion: if a firm has a billable requirement of 1800 hours or more, it shouldn’t be able to advertise the job as having any paid time off. It’s not PTO, you literally just have to make up those hours somewhere else, like nights weekends and holidays. You’re not “off”, because ultimately you’re still working the equivalent of a full week every week for the entire year.

I’ve been on partial secondment at a FAANG. Apparently it ended 3 weeks ago but neither the AGC nor relationship partner told me (until tonight) and I’ve still been attending internal meetings and billing to the client. 1) wtf, and 2) should I do any CYA?

Are partner promotion votes generally unanimous? Like if you pissed off some random partner in a different office or practice on something not so major and they hold a grudge, and they vote against you, how does that usually work? Assuming of course you had the support of the partners in your own group. I know this is firm dependent to an extent.
