Same thoughts as my Bainie friend above. Now also strikes me as a great time to step away from the world and watch it go round for a bit.

I’m going. Reality is that I’d love to do an MBA regardless, and I’m just not sure that things will go back to the status quo anytime soon anyway.
I’m actually opting to start virtual in the fall because I figure I can meet people later, and I want some more time with family and see how the public health situation plays out (not sure I’d feel comfortable being active in an urban environment for the fall anyway, at least for the time being, so figured the upside of virtual won out the downside of virtual for me personally). It’s definitely a bummer but I’ve found peace with the decision.
Ya! Hoping it’s not too miserable if we’re remote and choosing to be cautious. :)
Here was my thought process for still going this fall.
1) what options for deferral is my school offering for me? (None)
2a) how would i do in a likely very competitive app cycle this fall/next fall? (Probably not better)
2b) do i have the energy to go the whole app cycle again? (Nope)
So unfortunately its shitty but my best option is still to go this year.
Other factors that may play a factor for others is: age, family, job security, etc.

Also going, though I do plan to be on campus from the start, even with virtual classes as a possibility. To me, a 21 month program is crazy short and I want to be physically present from the beginning to build connections with classmates and broader university. Even if classes won’t be in person, you can’t replace the ability to hang out and connect around the school. That’s where the magic happens in my opinion.
I’ve decided to defer in light of the all the uncertainties on how campus life will look like in fall and spring. The MBA goes over fast and I wouldn’t risk spending 25-50% of the time staring into my laptop while missing out on all the learning and networking experiences outside the classroom. However, for me it’s a special situation since I am an international student and not anticipating to be able to enter the US in time for the fall semester. If you have the possibility to move to campus and meet all your peers anyways, it’s a different situation!
We all got the possibility defer - however without guarantee that we can start next year - some will be pushed to fall 2022. But I guess waiting 2 years is still better than doing an online MBA. Obviously, no one knows what happens in fall but from my perspective, all international students should be prepared to have a virtual fall semesters and a still heavily restricted spring (in case of a significant 2nd wave)
I decided to start at a school this fall rather than defer or reapply. I initially thought about deferring because I heard from many of my friends that the online environment wasn’t great. But I shifted to think about how can I get those experiences I want (even if they are different) rather than just thinking it won’t be the same therefore I should wait. It’s just a new situation and new situations create opportunities. The environment at work (I.e layoffs) and lack of an attractive alternative have also influenced my decision to go this year. Granted, everyone’s situation is different (health concerns, higher opportunity cost, etc) and there are many factors that influence an individual’s choice
Update: I am going too
Do you have the option with your employer to tell them “Just kidding, I’m not actually quitting in the next 2 months like I originally said I would when I applied to school”? I know for me that wasn’t an option since they made other plans way in advance so curious how that would work for you
I’m hoping to get accepted and attend this fall. Actually looking forward to not having to move to campus right away. I’d have to find someone to rent my current home and shop for a new one
As someone who is a club president at a business school, all clubs are hard at work thinking about how to engage all new students virtually! It won’t be the same as the many nights spent at noisy bars, but honestly the structure might facilitate getting to actually know people better. The first time I met many of my classmates was at a day club in Vegas, I didn’t remember shit about anyone. Although it will be surreal to get to know people through zoom first and THEN see them blackout on ski trip hahaha
