22 yrs experience and a new grad is being hired for $3 more than I make. I am doing double work because of short staffed. How do I get a raise without letting them know I know the difference?? I am due for my review soon. Thx

you should ask if the company has any plans to review salaries to see if they’re still competitive in the market because so many factors have inflated just about everything and salaries should reflect the highest cost of living. a lot of companies are doing this on top of doing yearly increases so this could be something to mention anyway and it really puts the onus on the company. you can apply around and see what you’re worth and/or tell your manager that you’ve received offers of x to x and you don’t think you’re being valued and compensated fairly.

I did make my supervisor know the tech can’t be making more than the therapist and I want a pay increase. Staying silent is being ok, look for another job, I’ve changed jobs 3 times in 2 years and almost doubled my salary.

I don’t think it’s a problem to let them know you know the difference. You don’t have to tell them that she/he told you but instead “I know that I’m underpaid compared to newly hired personnel” and at the very worst they’ll tell you no. And that’s gonna be a sign for you to start looking out for yourself and apply for new jobs and see what’s out there

like

I don’t understand why employees don’t share with each other what they make. It only helps the employer not the employee.

If your employer has a policy forbidding employees talking about their compensation then they are breaking federal labor law. If they threaten or fire you because of it, you have a slam dunk wrongful termination suit. Tell them you know. If they have a problem with it then you should look elsewhere regardless if they give you a raise or not. You can forego the two week notice as well. This isn’t something that is required by any law. That is a courtesy your employer doesn’t deserve if they deny a raise to some with 22yrs of service to match what they are paying new hires with no experience. Forbidding this kind of communication is a blatant form of wage suppression. American workers are too tolerant of this kind of wide spread illegal activity.

like

If you are a at-will employee (non-bargaining) you can be let go/fired without cause. Employees in situations like this should join platforms like this one and share there pay info to get a better footing at negotiations with their employer.

You let them know you need a cost of living raise. It’s 2022, it was ingrained in us to think it was bad to chat about salaries. It isn’t you deserve a fair wage.

I know that’s in the past year and 2 jobs, I was the highest paid rn at one of the job with no relevant experience and one of the highest paid at another one, again with no relevant experience. Please do yourself a favor and apply to a few jobs to get the idea of what you currently worth

I told my boss once i knew someone else in my department was making more than me by a couple dollars an hour and i even had taken some of their workload due to their poor skills. I refused to say how i knew as they pressed me for that information however i did get a raise. Call them out or you wont get what you deserve.

like

Just say that you’ve researched similar roles in your area and you feel that based on the current market trend and the amount of workload that you have, you think you deserve a raise.

I found out the same thing several years ago. I knew I was highly productive as well as having trained some of those making more. I stood my ground and asked for the base of what they were hired at plus the additional I earned over the last several years. I got it. They know I would have walked. Know your worth.

All you can do is be honest and don’t mention names. It is just best to let them know about the discrepancy in pay rates and that if starting pay is changing that the current nurses deserve to have salary adjustment made to reflect new stating salary

like

May I ask why you don't want to let them know you are aware of the pay rates?

like

make a list of your assets to the company and your dedication and say I think that I am worth this extra money for all of what you do and find a salary posting maybe within your community or a continuing education group that has the same skill sets to compare salaries. A lot of individual clubs or organizations will do a survey and post the results. Confidence in what you do and how you present yourself is a big part of the game.

Apply for a similar position and well let the best offer win! If they don’t see your value someone will!

like

This is what I would suggest as well! Get other offers in hand and then present your case. You have got this.

You have to look out for yourself first!!!

like

I would start looking for a new job. It will cost them more to hire new folks than to give you a raise . Which you won’t be getting .

like

When a company shows you who they are and what they value- believe them. Apply apply apply and come back with the offers and if they want to retain you, they will. Otherwise be ready to leave. The starting wage at a company that doesn’t care will haunt you your whole career

like

Honestly. I would switch companies and get a better pay rate. Or get another offer and leverage a pay increase at your current job if you want to stay

Counter offer it!

Hey everyone I had a call with a manager I used to work with. He wants me back with the company. I had a successful interview with the team and they basically informed me that I have the position. HR reached out and asked for my expected salary and I turned it back on them. He responded back that they can't give out salary ranges and I should review the role and get back to him....

What should I do?

Thank!

What if our company paid us a nice bonus now if we are >100% utilized, then had a clause that we would have to pay it back if we left within 1 - 3 years. Something like this may resolve the retention issue.

A debate happening in another thread that deserves its own post:

The Affirmative: A social post with a straight up headline and visual—in other words, an ad—is a perfectly fine social post. Opinions may differ on the quality of the line and such and such.

The Opposed: Social posts have different creative aspirations, and should be something else. People dont like ads, they like Tik Tok and the like, and we (ad people) shouldnt impose what we think of as “good advertising” on them.
