You should be able to max out everything. Take advantage of all the tax advantages now. Who knows how healthy you will be next decade or even next year. And who knows what your working situation will be.

^that is true. But as someone who is getting hit with a $25k bill for a surgery that is considered medically necessary by the insurance company, it's nice to also have access to the HSA for unexpected things like that. But yes, best use is if you don't touch it until retirement.

smart

Just max everything possible including Roth. Keep your biggest expenses in check (rent and car) and the other things will sort themselves out. You can always withdraw or take a loan in an emergency but trust me your future self will thank you.

Are you contributing to Roth 401k or traditional?

Carrying over traditional from my previous employer

Let's say I have 100k invested in a SaaS startup that went public. I'm 28, employed, have another 35k invested in ETFs/dozen other stocks and have maxed out my 401k and roth contributions. Would you: 1) Recoup your initial investment pre-IPO and let the rest ride 2) Sell the full 100k, pay capital gains tax, and diversify 3) A mix of both, and if so what allocation

Starting a new job in September. If the new company matches 100% of 401k up to 5%, does that mean a max of 5% of the salary I’ll make between September and December, or would it be 5% of my full salary, so that if i contribute at 20% or so, I can get 5% of the full, yearly salary in just those 4 months? Thank you!

First time leaving firms - not sure what to do with my 401k. Should I keep it as it is, transfer to an IRA, or a Roth IRA. If it is the latter, I know Roth IRA has a 6k limit but my 401k has ~17k. Will it exceed the limit and if so, what should I do? 22 here, not too familiar with the process. Thanks!

It seems that management doesn’t always understand that employee engagement is tied to many things such as work/life balance, benefits, workload, etc. Any ideas on how to present this type of info to management? We have already done an engagement survey and delivered results but there is lack of action planning which is also not heavily backed up by leadership. Any ideas on how to deliver this message so it makes an impact?

Wow so I’m a first time people manager in industry (big company) and I’m in the process of getting one of my direct reports promoted. I am shocked that HR’s formal stance is that I have to jump through hoops to rescope the role to justify the promo instead of singing the praises of the direct report who is a rockstar. Theoretically I get the logic of “emphasize the role and not the direct report” but can’t help but feel disappointed that’s the way it is. Are all big companies like this?
