Underrated = cleaning supplies and kitchen utensils.

like

A matching set (or 2!) of silverware from Restaurant Depot or Amazon.

like

If you’ll be walking distance to super markets I’d get a portable cart for your groceries

likefunny

Overrated- “specific” furniture like barcarts. A side table / console table / ikea kitchen counters will work for almost every functional need.
Underrated- kitchen fixtures like towel holders, knife stands, etc. A REALLY comfortable chair. (Cheaper than a couch)

like

Buy a good vacuum. And use it.

likesmart

I think plants are a bit overrated — one or two is okay but don’t bury your apartment in plants.

Underrated— a toaster oven! Overnight pizza, leftover chicken wings, etc will stay crisp once you pop those babies in.

likefunny

Disagree on the plants! Way cheaper way to decorate! Bury me in plants

likefunny

Overrated - instapot
Underrated - reusable easy to wash food storage (🚫 ziplocks!)
Underrated in young men’s apartments (ime) - ottomen & flexible seating options bc ladies don’t want to cram on your probably-too-small sofa w yr roomies

like

If you can't cook and have to follow recipes, instapot isn't bad.

If you freeball meals and make mixed grains, a rice cooker might be a better idea

Make sure you have all the functional/ normal furniture your apartment needs before adding a bar cart. Bar carts are classy if you have proper/ nice furniture and decorations in your apt and trashy if you’re apartment is sparse.

likesmart

A bar cart to show off your booze only makes sense if you can :

1) keep the rest of the place classy and clean (3 young dudes I'm not holding my breath)

2) Fill it with nice booze and equipment not bottom shelf tequila and bourbon

3) You have the appropriate (clean) glassware for the nice booze

Else it's clear your doing it just for show and not doing it well.

Underrated: Good vacuum cleaner, wall art that doesn't belong in a dorm room.

likehelpful

I think a bar cart is a great idea regardless of age. That’s a must have in my mind

like

underrated - immersion blender, a good chef and paring knife, a nice rug or two, lamps, one really good bookshelf speaker
overrated - mirrors, smart home devices, books as decor, precious expensive hand soap (in covid era it kinda suggests you're not washing your hands enough)

like

Dishwasher 100%

like

Underrated - fan or white noise generator for when you’re trying to sleep and they’re being loud.

like

Been >10 yrs since I lived with my non-wife/kids roomies. But when I was at my first professional housing we split a weekly cleaning lady. Shared bathroom + several young single professional dudes was not a recipe for cleanliness. This is a benefit in multiple facets of your life and not expensive when split 3 ways

like

Underrated- big supply of paper towels and paper plates, carpet, strong laundry basket to drag around, coat hanger you can put on a door, pull up bar, robot vacuum cleaner (good for young guys if they won’t clean), portable speakers, board games. Can get most of this cheap and easy on amazon

like

Good set of knives

like

Masks

like

Get a nice couch and cozy pillows, as well as a nice kitchen mat to prevent slips. If possible, everyone chip in for a roomba to make cleaning a breeze. And you always want to buy a plunger BEFORE you need it!!!

Overrated: any expensive furniture you care a lot about. Your early to mid-20s are full of constant movement and changes to your living situation. Wait until you’re more settled to buy things you really care about.

Underrated: a mop. Please mop.

A condom dispenser

1YOE medical device NPI Lead looking for salary perspective

Mechanical engineering grad, joined a medical device startup that I had done co-ops at. 8mo into full-time, pivoted from engineering into more of an operations role doing new product introduction (NPI), now with 3 direct reports.

The combination of startup+medical device+NPI seems very unique and I'm struggling to find salary comparables. Currently making 75k but it feels very low given my new responsibility and impact. Any advice?

I’ve been at my agency for almost 3 years now and recently got promoted from junior level to mid-level. I discovered copywring my senior year of college and got hired right after I graduated. I’ve learned a lot from my job and think I’ve improved as a copywriter, but I often feel like I’m struggling to keep my head above water. I want to keep improving my skills and work on some more exciting projects. I’m considering doing an online portfolio school like Adhouse, but wondering (cont.)
